The five best albums of all-time are My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello, Making Movies by Dire Straits, Satellite Rides by The Old 97's, The Beatles by The Beatles, and Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen. In that order. Sorry you guys went 3 full pages before getting the correct answer.
Definitely missing a ton of stuff. This is almost too broad of a topic haha. I think I agree with that. In no order I would put Rubber Soul, A Hard Day's Night, Help, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, and Sgt. Pepper ahead of the White Album.
Digging how eclectic this list is. And I always have the same problem with which Weezer and Brand New albums to include.
My top 5, in no particular order: Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning Sigur Ros - ( ) Brand New - Deja Entendu Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run Sufjan Stevens' Carrie & Lowell is also a recent contender. And I just realized how all of my favorite albums' artists start with B and S. Not sure what that says about my list.
I wouldn't necessarily argue with any of those first four, or Abbey Road, but there's no way Magical Mystery Tour and Sgt. Pepper are better than the White Album.
In terms of every song being my favorite on each, I probably agree with you. I do prefer their straight forward songs mostly. However, I think those albums were important from a recording and artist empowerment standpoint. The technology used and the artist's approach to making a record was very impactful. Setting the standard that Beatles records would be much more of a process (as opposed to the churn and burn approach), but also that the band would take on the identity of different a different band was very unique.
My top three is Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, and Revolver, probably in that order. After that, it's probably Sgt Pepper and self-titled, so I guess The White Album would make my top five, albeit narrowly. The issue with The White Album for me is that I think there's just way too much filler. It's one of the ultimate examples, for me, of a double album being less than the sum of its parts. There are a lot of songs I love on there--more, surely, than on Sgt Pepper--but I very rarely listen to it top to bottom.
