this is a bold claim but I'm thinking this might be his best and most consistent album and that's just from one listen
This is certainly a grower for me. I was a little unsure where it was going on first listen, but this is hitting so much harder on listen 2
With a name like Punk, I was honestly worried this would be another MGK/Travis Barker style "pop punk" album from a rapper. Was pleasantly surprised that was not the case at all
Thug didn't do quite as much vocally here as he usually does but that's fine with me because the album didn't really call for him to and I don't want the kind of things he's done on a song like say Harambe to be looked at as a kind of gimmick or something when he can do so much
Peepin Out The Window is growing on me a lot I think I was resistant to it at first because I wanted to hear Future on a harder beat but it is a good song
best thug project since beautiful thugger girls. would maybe even put it up there with barter 6 if some of the fat was trimmed, but we all know 20 track rap albums are par for the course these days and its pulled off much better here than on any other given stream grabbing release coming out, theres a lot less having to dig and filter out whats actually worth keeping. its really only a handful of songs i didnt feel at all on my first couple listens.
i could do without livinit it up, scoliosis, bubbly (if it didnt have features itd be a keeper but travis and drake bring it down a lot), and icy hot. and, in general, i think the songs without features are by far the best ones here.
Yup. Apparently six solo songs got cut at the last minute to make room for some of the songs that had features. Police and Fighting Depression in particular were both scrapped, but you can listen to Police on YouTube - would have been one of the best songs in here. If his label wasn’t so concerned with sales this thing would have been even better. Still exceeded my expectations though.
