Someone at my work tried to explain that rap sucks now because of guys like Young Thug. He used his lyrics as a reason. Alright, I give up.
they were touting it as the official debut until the last second, it was super weird and confusing. hitunes is going to be the debut album but the commercial mixtape stuff is kind of blurring the line and making it semantics anyway
Haven't heard anyone mention Guwop yet when discussing favorite tracks. My favorites keep changing, but I guess that's the sign of a solid record.
I dont understand the hate for thugger. People say they dont understand what hes saying but its usually pretty clear to me when hes enunciating. Also its not like hes the only rapper who ever used melodies in his raps as well as different voices (eminem used to do that, nicki, etc) He just does it the best. Agreed with the comment up there-- definitely one of the best vocal performances of the year. The control he has over it while still sounding off-the-wall crazy is amazing
8.5 bnm, good review too Young Thug: JEFFERY Album Review | Pitchfork Young Thug Is His Own Genre Now (although it rubs me the wrong way that we continue to discuss him as though he is anamolous for his genre/that he transcends it as though that's necessary for greatness, etc)
Wowowowow. This is fucking great. I had dug various tracks here and there of his in the past but had always had trouble latching on fully. This is the one that does it I think, maybe leading to more speculation that the "this is the one that crosses him over but keeps the existing fan base" camp is spot on.
