I'm okay with them taking a break from the long, sprawling songs this time around. I think they've really done so much with that angle of their sound over the last three records and I think it's cool that they're going for brevity here
The rest of the band seems pretty deemphasized in the description of the album. Is it just the singer?
gonna just wait and listen as a whole with this one. bummed I apparently did NOT buy that bandcamp EP like I thought I did, if anyone has it and doesn’t mind sharing I would greatly appreciate it. equal parts excited and kinda wary of the apparent change-up with this record.
The promo write-up makes it sound like the other members left the band. Not super into this song tbh.
i like this record. it is definitely different, but i think the sound suits them. ocean is a pretty good indicator, though i think a lot of the record is more interesting than that song. i thought of strange ranger’s no light in heaven a few times while listening, they made kind of a similar transition on that one (though this record is not quite as eclectic). i’ll probably listen to this a lot
I think I really enjoy it as for my first listen, love the Tomberlin features, and I try not to put any comparison on the previous stuff, which comes easy seeing as I only discovered YJ a bit more than a year ago.
I've never listened to Young Jesus, haha. Only reason I've heard of them was because when I started listening to Petey, I saw he was the drummer for them previously and then he just announced a few weeks ago they'd be opening for him.
I listened to about half of the new record. I’m gonna finish it up later. Tbh I’m not really crazy about the new sound. The last 3 records are imo some of the best and most underrated indie rock has to offer, but idk, this one might not be for me.
Petey rules. Had no idea these guys were connected. Gotta make sure to listen to this later today. Didn’t love the single so we shall see
