Ben is offering donation-based songwriting consultation if you go over to his Instagram. I've had a song I've been stuck on for a while and I went for it!

Talked to him for like 80 minutes, he had some wonderful ideas not just on my song specifically, but of habits to build and exercises to consider when writing songs in the future.

Also said some new acoustic songs are in the pipeline, virus kinda paused their plans, which totally makes sense lol

That first track is something I did not expect.

 

solid songs, though the first track i was excited for a 10 minute song! but i totally understand the meaning behind the silence, so I can't be too angry

 

holy shit, is this out!?

 

I seen "and the record begins" and expected an IARB-esque record and my dreams were fulfilled. They are now still fulfilled.

 

The similarities in the lyrics and melody to Cassino's "The Gin War" in part of the first track are interesting, but I can't tell if there's a deeper meaning behind it (e.g. a reference to something that I just don't recognize) or it just kind of happened and he went with it –

Does anyone have handy the version of Shock & Awe where "This is a fuck you to Richard Reines" is not dubbed over? I've got it buried in a hard drive somewhere.

I can't remember which version of the record included it, but it's labeled as "Original Demo" on the release. This was the canonical version for me for years before hearing the "Album Version" on a Spotify shuffle years ago. 12 You, Me, And Everyone We Know Shock & Awe (Original Demo) mp3

 

Wherever I downloaded this album, maybe AP.net honestly, this version was on there instead of the official release. Bugs me crazy whenever I listen to it on streaming services as that was the first time I heard it as well. I'm guessing Doghouse made them change it before the record actually came out.
