You Hurt My Feelings (Nicole Holofcener, 2023)

This was okay. Felt a little bored at times. I like the idea of a movie that revolves around the little lies and brutal truths we tell people in our lives, but the narrative was a little too practical for me

 

90 minutes of being like hey I know them from that show ,movies are back
Also added bonus of someone announcing what was on the screen

I had an okay time with this. It's an interesting subject to examine, the social taboos about when and how to be honest with one another, and it has some good laughs to keep you through the whole thing. The contrast between being honest with those we know intimately versus strangers or people you work with was interesting. It helped bring a little more nuance to the story. But it often seemed to be forcing the issue. Too often the dialogue felt unnatural, like it was reaching out and saying "okay, let's get back on track to the theme here!"
