Can’t believe that old dude passed away up on the mountain… Poor guy probably died of boredom waiting for something to happen on this fuckin show.

Yeah literally nothing happened besides the president showing up. I know Montana is beautiful I don’t need 20 minutes an episode showing me the scenery.

I’m just laughing at how absurd this show is now. It opens with a bunch of dogs getting shot because the President is coming to town? What? lol

Followed by an hour of nothing and then another cliffhanger… That’s definitely their formula though. The story isn’t interesting or complex enough so they have to leave a cliffhanger right at the end to rope you into coming back next week. Then the cliffhanger amounts to nothing.

I mean, look at what they did last time - the preview made it look like shit was going to go down on the mountain this week. Turns out it was a very peaceful trip and then some old, unnamed character died in his sleep and then…back to normal.

    Better than you, sorry

The show officially jumped the shark last season. It was really teetering between absurd and ridiculous for awhile now. It became less drama more action. They definitely went the wrong route with their family storylines—heck, they’re hardly family.

I would agree, but even the action has been lacking this time lol. I enjoy the cinematography in this show, but the slow montages of the countryside and ranching/cowboying are boring when the only other thing happening is unnecessary monologues during every conversation. The story itself is basically non-existent. Every time they start approaching something that seems like an interesting plot thread, it's abandoned or ignored.

Kayce had visions during the finale last season and then immediately lost his child in the premiere... Then proceeds to be MIA for every other episode this season.

John becomes Governor with 0 campaigning or struggle. Then he proceeds to show up, fire everyone and fuck off to the mountains.

We get flashbacks of young John fighting with people who poisoned his water...which goes nowhere and has nothing to do with anything (it seemed vaguely related to the wolves plot?) This leads to him freeing Summer from prison so they can resolve the issue of those wolves that were shot, but it hasn't come up in the last two or three episodes.

Every bit of it is just meandering nonsense with no point. I know it's supposed to be mindless entertainment but...it's not even entertaining anymore.

Looks like I'm the odd man out here, but I enjoyed this episode, haha; for once we weren't assaulted over the head with some dumb ass plot line/scenes, but instead really all this episode was about was showing what a cattle drive is like. Like, yeah it didn't really advance the show forward much at all, but I didn't really care. It was really just the characters we all know, just living a few days drama free (bar the old dude passing away), which was actually pretty refreshing. And the acting/dialogue from John I thought was the highlight of the episode, especially his interactions with Summer and the Senator. For me, I don't need a forward-moving plot for every single episode for this kind of show; I go into these episodes with the understanding that I'm not going to get a complex story or complex characters, but instead juiced up drama set on a cattle ranch in Montana, with occasional episodes basically just showing ranch life, and that's exactly what this show delivers.

I guess my issue is that there needs to be a balance to this stuff. Episodes that don't drive the plot forward are fine if you have enough plot advancement in other episodes....which this season has not done that. Cliffhangers or dangling plot threads are fine if it's not every episode. Low-key episodes where not much happens is also fine, but you can't do like four of those in a row. haha.

Yeah John became governor and then nothing has happened since.

Yeah this episode wasn’t too bad but definitely didn’t do much for the story. Except setting Jamie up to be a damn fool again. Like the President would come to your state and the governor wouldn’t be there lol. Also, with all the musical performances at the end of every episode this has quickly become Luke Cage if Luke Cage was a white cowboy in Montana.

I liked that the episode had a slower pace but I also agree with others that not enough is happening and they are going back to the well way too much on certain subjects.

it also cracks me up that someone will like drink a beer and john goes "that's how a cowboy drinks a beer"

Why is Kayce the golden child and heir to the ranch? Like in one of the earlier seasons they make it a point to say that it’s all for him. In this episode Monica calls him the heir. He can do no wrong. He doesn’t do shit nor does he have to the way Beth and Jamie do.

I think it’s because he’s the only male heir; if he died, then Beth would be next in line

Yeah, I guess they're treating it like a line of succession for some reason. The eldest son (I'm assuming) gets the ranch to pass it down along with the name? The oldest Dutton son is dead, Jamie isn't really a Dutton, Beth is a woman and can't have children anyway, etc. so Kayce is the natural choice.

I think this is also pretty key in how the series will end, assuming the ranch will be given up to the Natives. In the prequel, the tribe leader told James Dutton that the land would have to be returned in seven generations (or something like that). Tate is the seventh generation...and is obviously half-Native. So I think something will come into play there.

Yeah it just kinda seemed like the oldest son was never an option. I know he died early on but they never even mention him

I think he died in like episode 1 or 2 of the first season

He died in the first episode and they literally never talk about him it’s insane. He was just there for shock in the first episode.

Good episode on Sunday; things of consequence are starting to take shape, as in we're starting to get an idea on how things might end up playing out from a series finale perspective. Next week is the mid-season finale, and apparently they haven't yet started filming the 2nd half of the season

Haven't watched 1923 yet, as I just got back from abroad in the last few days, but my Dad and I plan on watching the first episode tonight I think. Quite excited for it
