Woahh killing off Lottie in the present was not something I expected. Kind of came outta nowhere. I know it's the mcguffin that will move the remainder of the present storyline along this season, but it felt cheap.
kind of a nothingburger episode, Steven Krueger was really great in the flashback is about all I can give it ending is almost definitely a fakeout, hopefully it gives the adult timeline some direction either way because my god they're floundering there
it was fun in the first season when there was actually a kind of mystery to solve and before they flanderised the everloving hell out of adult Misty and made her a dorky weirdo instead of a genuine threat
I would watch hours of Teen Lawyer Misty. Steven Krueger was fantastic. This was one of the harder episodes to get through emotionally speaking. You’re just watching Coach Ben slowly fall backwards in a chair and you can’t stop it. At this point, I’m wondering if Lottie kills Melissa or they divide into two factions and essentially go to war[\spoiler]
Thoughts on this week’s episode: - I agree w/ Eva that this was tough to watch. Even if the jury found Ben innocent, it wouldn’t have mattered - That said, the teens redoing their vote until a 2/3 majority was reached was bullshit - I’m guessing Akilah changed her vote to guilty bc the visions had her afraid that if Ben didn’t die, she’d be next - Of course one of Jeff’s party tricks is doing a Christopher Walken impression - RIP Lottie. I was looking forward to more of her in the adult timeline :(
As goofy and tonally grating as I find the present storyline I do enjoy Jeff and Randy's wacky cornball middle aged white dude antics. I like that Randy is just everywhere randomly when they need some comic relief.
I fully forgot Randy was an existing character we knew and I was wondering why this random hospital employee seemed vaguely familiar the whole ep
Fuck teen Shawna. Steven Krueger was great this episode! Honestly the adult storyline has always been meh, saved by Christina Ricci imo. I've always been into the show more so for the Lord of the Flies aspect anyways.
I hope Steven Krueger gets cast in some good roles after he gets killed off. He is a really good actor.
I'm still having a good time with the show but yeah the present day timeline really drags it down sometimes
I guess based on interviews I'm seeing Lottie really is dead. genuinely just assumed it was a fakeout because... that's pretty much where I'm at with the adult timeline lol I don't believe for a second this was always in the plan, it's just such an abrupt and kind of underwhelming reveal
her performance was great they just clearly did not know what to do with her at all and varied how menacing she was arbitrarily from scene to scene
I try to keep in mind that the show was pitched as a 5-season story, so I’m inclined to give the writers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to plot points regarding major characters I thought it was interesting to bring Lottie back as an adult and make her a contagonist. She was an essential part of season 2 and I enjoyed Simone Kessell’s performance, in part bc on the surface she seems quite removed from Courtney Eaton’s portrayal but at its core not really Of course it’s too early to tell if Lottie’s death actually feels unearned, but people regularly die in this show for consequential reasons, so why not her? It makes more sense to me than trying to integrate her back into the group of Shauna, Tai, Misty, and Van
What an episode. Lots of thoughts: - “She’s a sister to me in all the ways that matter” “Like legally?” - I hope nothing else bad happens to Simone; she deserves peace - I felt so sure Misty would secretly poison Ben to spare him a more brutal death. Love how this show keeps me on my toes - Toes - Citizen Detectives Walter and Shauna vs Misty was a fun plot. Heartbreaking scene with Shauna and Lottie’s dad, though - Odds that the cliff and city in the distance in Akilah’s vision are real? - Great “Rid of Me” needle drop, also reminds me of Halt and Catch Fire’s great “Rid of Me” needle drop - Shauna holding Melissa’s bloodied hand—iconic - Give Liv Hewson an award for that look Van gives Shauna
Saw a theory floating around that the accidental deaths have been unreliable narrations and the girls actually killed them. IF that were true, it puts an interesting question of who between Melissa and Shauna actually stabbed Coach Ben. But that's all theory and doesn't totally matter here. Teen Shauna is an unhinged maniac
