Yup agreed, it allows for this specific kind of stuff that we're seeing. Expands beyond what we already knew and breathes new life into the group dynamic.
Finally watched the new episodes. Overall I'm a little disappointed so far, but part of that is how slow moving they felt compared to the first two episodes of S1 and S2, and that I personally have set my expectations beyond pure entertainment. Some thoughts: - I love how the show nodded to fan speculation that Mari is Pit Girl by having her fall into a different pit - Also, solid reference to Melissa being a peripheral character until now by Shauna remarking that she actually has a personality - Is is just me, or does the season not look as good compared S1 and S2? Maybe it's just the colour grading bothering me, but the resolution seems less crisp for some reason - I suppose this is an evergreen statement, but poor Jeff lol - Sarah Desjardins is so good as Callie and I'm happy that she's been promoted to main cast - I'm intrigued by the pairing of Callie and Lottie. They're both among the show's most capable manipulators but in different ways and it's tough to guess how their dynamic will play out - I'm here for the duo of Mari and Coach Ben, too. Would be surprised if either make it to S4, though - I didn't expect to miss Juliette Lewis as much as I did. I'd really underrated her Natalie as a foil for the other characters, especially Misty - Where is Lisa? - THAT KISS!!!!!
Just watched the two new episodes. Still somehow convinced they are just winging it with this show lol. There’s this constant sense of “where is this all going?” Like no narrative urgency at all and every scene feels disconnected. Still weirdly enjoying though? I guess I would just like some sense of purpose or drive toward a destination.
I think there's a vague destination, Tai and Shauna ignored their trauma for decades and it finally caught up to them, and when Shauna becomes an empty nester soon it will just be worse since being Callie's mom has been her identity for so long
it's definitely leaning towards being a straight up comedy at this point. some very goofy stuff in ep3
Drops on Paramount+ 12AM EST Fridays. Airs on premium cable Sunday nights. Showtime shows have a weird release schedule for streaming compared to HBO.
There’s too many shows out right now so I think I’m going to pause on this one and come back when I can binge a few in a row.
I'm always happy to see my main crush Ella but I feel like we learned remarkably little about the characters despite getting three dedicated journeys into their subconscious? it was just some weird stuff happening for weird stuff's sake. I think we're really starting to see the effects of them never really developing any of the teens except Shauna, Nat, Tai and Misty - kinda hard to buy into Akilah and Mari when we know nothing about them except for "likes animals" and "is mean"
Evil talking Llama was cool I noticed the score during the Shauna vision sounded eerily similar to the Rosemary's Baby theme and I wonder if that was purposeful.
Had just been thinking that I hope they keep finding ways to bring Ella back because she’s so much fun as Jackie and then boom. Her dragging her finger across her throat in the opening credits sequence always gives me chills Honestly, the llama only lost me because of the voice. It sounded like a Pixar movie all of a sudden
The “Make Your Own Kind of Music” drop - we’re getting real overt with the Lost influence now I see. Love it
Glad they got into some crazy dream shit this week. It seems like we’re not actually seeing the reality of their circumstances atm. It was already a theory but Mari’s comments sounded like it was confirming it.
I really wish they didn't have adult Shauna burn her diary in season 1. Got rid of the possibility of Callie getting to read it down the line.
There’s a phone number for the ice cream place they show that if you call apparently says “the screams aren’t what you think they are” or something like that
