great episode but I think Javi dying was kind of underwhelming considering he barely did anything this season. I'm hoping for a couple more shocking deaths in the finale but it feels like it's pretty obvious at this point which characters survived in the past also just gonna say it, Thatcher's "you're gonna have to look me in the eye" was the best line delivery in the entire show
The hunt didn’t work for me at all. It was such a sudden turn. They didn’t built to it enough. The jump from eating a corpse to just wanting to murder a close friend is way too big.
I just kinda see it as the desperation/starvation getting the better of them. i get why it didn't work for some people though
I get why it didn't work for some, but that really felt plausible to me. It's a psychosis after months living on the brink. They're hallucinating due to starvation at this point, some of them ready and willing to take their own lives, or happy to beat the living shit out of one another. And I'm pretty sure once you eat a human corpse, nothing is off-limits anymore. Makes sense they've reached animal-state.
I understand the starvation and psychosis and etc etc, but that it hit every single one of them, at the exact same time, and they all became the same kind of rabid... definitely farfetched. It's also a TV show, so whatever.
I don't think it's that much of a stretch. At this point the majority of them believe that Lottie has some sort of effect on their situation and see her as a leader. The starvation combined with the amount of time they've been stranded as well as the amount of loss they've suffered makes it plausible to me that they would believe that losing Lottie would be a final domino of sorts
I kinda felt the same about the switch being so sudden....which is weird because in some sense the show has also felt draggy at the same time. They've been building towards it for so long but I never thought they'd be into legit murdering a friend that fast. I assumed they were gonna eat the coach first because he's injured anyways or something and then their hunger, their energy from the Forrest would grow and then they get into hunger games style. But like others have mentioned, they haven't eaten in weeks/months. Lottie is all freeding them this bullshit about the Forrest etc, and they are desperate so I don't think its that far fetched. Maybe execution, eh, but overall not that far fetched
Yeah at a certain point during starvation your brain doesn't work the same way, and people just go along with things/think they won't draw the card
It did feel like there was a scene missing though. Them deciding to do this queen of hearts thing and draw straws. Did I miss that?
they could've had a shot of one or two of them in the midst of running, sort of surprised at their willingness to take part in the hunt. idk. maybe we'll get that moment of reflection next ep. also group mentality especially with a group like them is probably really strong
They’ve shown several instances of that group deranged mentality though. And they’ve shown individual delusions also. So I can see it
i liked that the drawing just happened without much setup, prob one of the most effective scenes in the show, the horror i experienced when i clocked what was going on!!!
i guess i see why some ppl think it was rushed but the cannibalistic collective unconscious of the yellowjackets was plenty established at the end of last season
i def agree this season has been paced weirdly (like the show knows it’s a hit and they’re milking it), writing has been all over the place, was v funny noticing all the silly machinations that got them all to the same place finally… but it’s a trashy horror soap opera so my capacity for forgiveness in these areas is pretty boundless as long as they’re bringing the nightmare imagery
It’s definitely that, as strong and sprinkled with “prestige” that it is. Always been that way with Shauna pregnant with Jackie’s boyfriend’s baby and whatnot. The soapy-trippy-horror Twin Peaks vibes are strong with this show.
apparently there was a scene of them discussing the rules of the card drawing that was filmed but they ended up cutting it. would've been interesting to see it but ultimately I think jumping right into that scene amped up the tension and horror alot more also for sure Tai wasn't herself during any of that right? that shot of her sleeping and waking up to dramatically say "we need to stay alive" was a strong suggestion
This is what I was wondering about immediately as well. Last time, when they ate Jackie, she had no idea, and just moments before this big decision she was seeing visions of her other self manifesting in front of her for the first time so it would seem that perhaps Other Tai could have taken the driver’s seat again. As they’ve said before, Other Tai is very focused on getting shit done…
I think they needed that scene. The entire show has been slow and thoughtful, no need to be so jarring now.
