I have to agree with this.. It’s really taken me by surprise. On first listen it wasn’t anything that stood out too much, but I found myself humming it a day or two later and now I can’t get it out of my head lol.
Yes. It was a hard pill to swallow for many (myself included), but I do like it and really appreciate it now. I think most people here agree that the second half is better than the first. Title track is freaking great, as they always are.
I don't remember all of the singles, but I know "One Bedroom" was one, which is the obvious radio play. Tied with The Deepest Well as my least favorite.
Listen to Lift a Sail mainly because Fragile & Dear and Illuminate are fantastic. Illuminate is one of the best songs Yellowcard has ever done.
Listening to Southern Air for the first time in a few years. Ten tears me to pieces more than it used to.
It'd be way more forgettable if it didn't have that weird Matty Mullins guest vocal, AKA the whole reason I don't like it haha.
I actually liked the guest spot. I always have enjoyed Mullins vocals though even if his lyrics are not the best for MMF
"The Deepest Well" is pretty terrific actually. I believe in my review of that album I dubbed the Matty Mullins vocal feature as "surprisingly unshitty."
Yeah I don't think it's anything close to the worst YC song haha. As for the most forgettable, that's probably one of the 5 or 6 songs on When You're Through Thinking that I can't remember the title of.
Listened to Lift a Sail for the first time in a couple years yesterday. Really love Convocation, as it reminds me of the opening of Lights and Sounds, and the drums kicking in on the second track. Beyond that? I find the album forgettable, but I'm gonna keep spinning it. Maybe it'll grow on me.
With the end of the band nearing in the next several months, has anyone heard anything about a possible studio albums boxset or represses of Ocean Avenue or Lights And Sounds? I know Ocean Avenue was just repressed in 2014, but it’s not really out there for sale from what I’ve seen. The more recent records are out there and I’ve recently picked up copies at reasonable prices, but I’d really love to round out my collection.
The beginning and end to When You're Through Thinking are incredible, the whole middle is pretty forgettable though.
For You and Your Denial was the most fucking awesome comeback song. I think it might've been the strongest first song back of any comeback band that I follow. That song still rocks.
Hide is one of my favorites also. All of the Big If tracks that were released as Yellowcard songs have been great, and I expect the same from Empty Street.
Gotta say, I really love the different layering on this mix of the song. I like it better than the album version.
