The Hotelier-Home Like NoPlace Is There Motion City Soundtrack- Go Jimmy Eat World- Damage Every Time I Die- Ex Lives Thursday- No Devolucion The Dangerous Summer- War Paint All Get Out- The Season The Gaslight Anthem- American Slang Moving Mountains- Moving Mountains Against Me- Transgender Dysphoria Blues
All Get Out is the most recent one that I've fallen in love with but that album is incredible. Ex Lives is also a fantastic piece of heavy rock
Hmmm.... Release, Kaleidoscope, War Paint, Southeastern, Red, Ledges, Carry the Ghost, Afraid of Ghosts, maybe The Civil Wars and American Slang... am I close?
Yeah, I was watching you try out that AGO album, haha. I've only heard a few songs from the Movement EP. they've been a band I've been meaning to check out for a while. I've had Ex-Lives in my iTunes since like 2014 when I got into FPU, haha. I'm just bad at checking out music.
Huh, I'm pleasantly surprised. Lemme guess the five - the two ATL albums, invented, one direction and turnover?
Butch Walker - Stay Gold Noah Gundersen - Ledges The Dangerous Summer - War Paint Chad Perrone - Release Jason Isbell - Southeastern Butch Walker - Afraid of Ghosts Bruce Springsteen - Wrecking Ball Taylor Swift - Red Jason Isbell - Something More Than Free Field Report - Marigolden Noah Gundersen - Carry the Ghost The Killers - Battle Born Dawes - All Your Favorite Bands Butch Walker - The Spade Will Hoge - Never Give In Southern Air is probably next. Feel kind of bad for leaving it off in the Yellowcard thread of all places.
Wow, I'm actually kinda shocked Southern Air didn't make it. #1 is an album that's not even out yet??? Bold move....would you say there's some recency bias going on there?
Kaleidoscope is probably around 20 or so. Ranking American Slang is complicated now because I'm not sure whether I like that or Painkillers more. I don't go back to The Civil Wars as much as I expected to.
I mean, yeah. I usually won't even rank albums until it's been a year. But this one is probably the only album out this decade where I think every song could be my favorite. Ledges is the only other album that's even close, on those terms, and that still has two or three that I don't love. And I know pretty well at this point that Butch Walker albums stick with me.
Nah, I actually love the Turnover album and I like most of Don't Panic. I don't like the Transit album other than "Long Lost Friends" and I don't really like Southern Air either. FH, Invented and Four are the other three though, ha.
Oh weird, I thought we disagreed way more on Turnover. I also wouldn't expect you to like Don't Panic and definitely pegged you as more of a fan of the Transit album. I don't know you anymore....
Haha, Turnover was in my top 15 last year I think. Really enjoyable album, those kinds of meloncholy, slightly romantic/nostalgic lyrics just work for me and I think it has really nice melodies too. Don't Panic is my favourite ATL album and despite not loving everything on there I'm super into a good chunk of it. "Backseat Serenade", "Somewhere in Neverland" and "Outlines" are all just really good pop rock songs. "Long Lost Friends" was the first Transit song I heard and I loved it, I never liked another thing I heard from them, haha.
Well shit. The Transit album definitely took me more than a few tries to get into, but it still really holds up for me even though I don't spin it as frequently as I did a couple years ago. I've always felt a connection between that album and Reach for the Sun (an album I'm really mad I couldn't include for this) for some reason, they just seem linked to me. Peripheral Vision just really blew me away. I think I've listened to it more this year than any 2016 release, even with how much I love the 1975 album.
16. mewithoutYou - Pale Horses 17. Nate Ruess - Grand Romantic 18. mewithoutYou - Ten Stories 19. Babymetal - Babymetal 20. John Mayer - Born & Raised 21. I the Mighty - Connector 22. Grimes - Art Angels 23. Frightened Rabbit - The Winter of Mixed Drinks 24. Joshua Radin - The Rock and the Tide 25. Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver 26. Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience Pt. 1 27. Frank Turner - England Keep My Bones 28. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues 29. Nicole Dollanganger - Ode to Dawn Wiener: Embarrassing Love Songs 30. Gerard Way - Hesitant Alien I think rounds off my top 30. Last two were the hardest part of my list. There's a ton of albums that could go there.
The Dangerous Summer is another band where the first song I heard, "Where I Want to Be", was never matched by anything else I heard, ha. I love a lot of other stuff from that band though so I don't really mind.
hmmm okay zero in here though you did add in Bon Iver and Pale Horses was one of the last three I cut, and I think Grand Romantic would make my top 50
TDS also took me forever to get into. I rarely instantly love bands or songs that end up becoming favorites.
I didn't really get into them that much until War Paint came out. I only really listened to the first three or four songs on RFTS. I still don't love all of RFTS but I'm into like 75% of it now I guess.
