Ken spent six months raving about Clarity and he still ranked it below CTTM. That's some serious devotion to Motion City Soundtrack. Can't fault his conviction.
Meanwhile, I spent several pages trashing MCS and still ranked all their albums over Lights & Sounds.
I've been trying to think of albums I really despise by bands I otherwise love, and I can't come up with a better example than that. Do you guys have any in particular?
I guess the Green Day trilogy albums kinda count. But I don't actively hate those or anything, I'm just disappointed that they put them out.
For how much I love all three of these bands, it's pretty remarkable how much more I like Futures than every other album. Well, to be fair, even MCS sort of on autopilot (Panic Stations) is a lot more enjoyable than Ryan Key singing with nodes. TBT to two weeks ago when Ken was saying Futures was overrated. Glad you came around buddy. Human Touch by Bruce Springsteen. Dos by Green Day. The Shade of Poison Trees by Dashboard Confessional. I think all three of those have redeeming qualities and songs. Lights and Sounds probably fits into that group too.
Uno and Tre I've mostly come around on. Each of them has a couple of duds, but they're mostly enjoyable power pop records. Dos has four songs that I like a lot and pretty much nothing else I can even stand to listen to.
You know me, I'm a flip flop in disguise. I guess I just hadn't listened to it in so long I forgot how magical it was.
