That's what I mean, they shouldn't have to explain what they're doing just because some people don't like when band's aren't using "real instruments".
It's frustrating when people don't see that as using "real instruments" and a lot of people don't which is dumb. Shame they have to announce that.
When I see Story of the Year play Sidewalks, instead of the string arrangement on the bridge they do a guitar solo instead. If Thrice can't play a keyboard or something for a certain song live, they just re work the song. I love knowing when I see those bands I am hearing them play. I don't think that is "dumb" to want that out of a live band, even if you disagree.
You do realize sampling and electronics are played on keyboards and synthesizers and drum machines, which are physically played by band members. Translating those to other instruments is cool but that doesn't make them any more talented than playing it on the original instruments.
Actually digging the new record a lot. Not a huge fan of "Looking for America," though. And hey, TBL was one of the first CDs I ever bought too!
Of course I do. I just prefer a band like Thrice playing their keyboards for Digital Sea and an actual xylophone for Broken Lungs as opposed to a member hitting a button to play a recorded sound, I like when they can't play something they just ignore it. Case in point "The Melting Point of Wax" has that string section before the second chorus that live they just leave out and you just get a sweet bass line. My point is that there are a lot of people that feel the way I do who want to see a band play their songs live and nothing prerecorded. There is no right and wrong, just personal preference.
Yeah, I can definitely understand not liking "Looking for America" at all. As I said, it is very much a mess musically. I've never really listened to Lecrae before, but I thought the choice of giving the platform to the voice of a Black Southern Christian was an inspired and forward thinking choice, as the band's target audience absolutely needs to hear Lecrae's voice and perspective in this moment, and I think that helps elevate that song to me beyond just the mediocre instrumentals
As a side note, I think the majority of people subbed to this thread cannot wait until we start talking about Yellowcard again
I like side conversations like this but I can't wait to start talking more YC when the album drops/tour starts.
When the album leaks I'm going to live post a full listen through of Give Up by The Postal Service and talk in detail about why I love that album and post my favourite lyrics.
How so? You mean the is "LP better than Neal/Does LaS suck/Does Lights and Sounds suck" posts? I find them funny.
I'll probably do a comparison of Yellowcard and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, going through each track number and explaining how the Yellowcard song is better in each case.
Yeah, really not a fan of those first two, though I'm kinda a hypocrite cause I don't mind trashing Lights and Sounds, which probably annoys other people.
