One of my best memories is listening to that song for the first time. I drove out to PA to see them, they played a one-off at a warehouse in the middle of nowhere essentially. And they had copies of the record before its release.

Putting that in my car and driving home, windows down and all, is something i will never forget.

Come on man, why do you have to make a post like this? You're in absolutely no place to say what will or will not have lasting value for other people. You don't know what that album means to some of the people in this thread. It was a record I was listening to in the weeks after my grandpa died and it was a huge comfort for me at that time. It means more to me than every record in their discography, with the possible exception of Southern Air. So yeah, I'll choose it over Paper Walls or Ocean Avenue or definitely Lights and Sounds most days. Except I can choose all of them because, as far as I know, I'm not getting shipped off to a desert island or something.

Like, I get that you don't enjoy it. But to just flat out say people won't go back to it and it won't have lasting value is laughable. If you're going to criticize the album, at least add something new to the discussion and provide some insight into why you think it qualifies as "trash."

First time I heard it was toward the end of my sophomore year of college and the shittiest semester of my life. The line "I've never been more ready to move on" felt so incredibly apt. When the school year ended and I finally could get the fuck out of town and go home, that was the song/record soundtracking my escape.

I agree. This isn't the record I wanted, but having awesome songs like Lift A Sail, Crash the Gates and MSK are worth them trying something new.

On a side note. I wish they would open their farewell tour set with Convocation and go into something heavier like Breathing or Lights and Sounds.

This is so sad. While I agree since it's a final tour it's best not to play much or any of the new album like Anberlin did. Overall though I hate that bands get so much shit from fans about only wanting to hear the old stuff. So many of my favorite bands are still writing new songs and I'd be bummed if I never got to see them.

this is about their warped set, not their final tour. still though this is a general viewpoint that a lot of people do that bother me

Since they are skipping a lot of Midwest, it's the final for some of us ☺ but yeah, I hate this mentality. Since they are probably only playing 6 or 7 songs max on warped, I'd assume they'd play the new song they released and the rest would have to be tied up with singles. They have 3 must play singles just from OA alone....

I hope they go with a lot of variety on their last tour, including the new stuff. One of the things that bummed me out about the "final Thrice tour" back in the M/M era was that it seemed like it was packed with older stuff and didn't represent things like TAI very well. Granted, I got into them after that show, before they came back, so I guess my tastes were already more favored for their newer material as opposed to their older ones. Did Yellowcard do a "farewell" tour when they went on hiatus? If so, then that should've already had a lot of their older material. YC came back, did 3 more albums, and they should be given proper recognition on the final tour as well.

That being said, I'm of the camp of With You Around being my favorite WYTTSY song. I'm also someone who visits Lift A Sail regularly and it's probably my most visited YC record behind Paper Walls (with Southern Air close behind).

More and more, I just want to hear new songs when I go see artists and bands.

For Thrice's tour, they did about 4 songs from each album that was voted for by fans (It looks like they counted TAI as one album) which I think is more than fair and it'd be so cool to see Yellowcard do that. All of their albums were represented almost equally. From what I remember with Yellowcard, after Paperwalls they toured it a bit, did an acoustic tour and then called it quits suddenly.

There's a happy medium that can be reached. I think out of a normal 15-18 song set it's not unfair to ask for no more than 6 new ones and the rest be staples with room for a b-side, rarity.

As a Brand New fan, this is the struggle.

Excited to experience Yellowcard for the first time live in Orlando. All the songs I hear will be my first time hearing them live (and last time).

I mean, for something like Warped, it makes sense for them to focus on "the hits." It's a shorter setlist, probably a less die hard/less respectful crowd, and their new album isn't out yet.

When an artist is touring for a specific record, no, it is not fair to ask that they play no more than six songs from that record. An artist should feel perfectly comfortable playing everything from their new record if they want to, without worrying that people are going to talk over the songs or scream for a single from 13 years ago. If you are going to see an artist tour during a specific record cycle, you should be prepared to hear a lot of songs from that album. If you don't want to hear those songs, don't buy a ticket. Or check Setlist.fm to see what the set looks like beforehand and decide whether or not it's worth it to you to hear that set.

I think this next Yellowcard tour is a slight exception to this rule, because it's their last. I'd assume that's why they're going to be playing 25 songs. I think they should play different sets every night, so more songs get their due, but pretty much no one other than Bruce Springsteen will do that anymore, so I never expect it.

If I was ever in a band, I'd love to just mix and match the set every few days (or even every night). Despite the fact that most fans want to hear the core singles, I feel like every song should have have some time in the spotlight. Being a single should just make those songs more likely to appear, not become inflated into every single set.

But then again, that's unrealistic when basically every band is in the business model of playing the majority of their hits.

mewithoutYou always change up their setlist which I love. Gives more inventive to see them multiple times.

You couldn't be more right. I get upset when I go to a show on a specific album cycle and don't see most if not the whole album being played. You are touring that album why wouldn't you play the whole thing then some hits/singles to close the show. That to me is what I would love to see every time but sadly that doesn't happen.

One band that really gets screwed over by the "play the singles" expectation is JEW. I love that band, but I tend not to love their setlists because they're so Bleed American heavy. I would be perfectly fine if they never played any of those songs again. I know I mentioned this the other day in the official thread, but they're the best example I can think of.

I don't need bands to do full album shows on their new stuff or anything. I'm fine with the new songs being interspersed with the old stuff. But when bands only play three or four songs from their latest album, it's just kind of odd. Like, do you not have confidence in your own material?

On the subject of "please play the new stuff," I'm seeing Butch Walker this September, and I'll be pretty bummed if he doesn't play all or most of his forthcoming record.

I'm sure it's really difficult for artists to make setlists though because it's impossible to please everyone, there'll be the huge fans that have seen them a ton already and want them to drop the singles for deeper cuts but then there'll be a lot of people seeing them for the first time who may not know much past the singles.

I'm going to see Coheed next month and I'm very glad it looks like they're going to play most of their biggest songs, ha.

Is this the case even in their own headlining shows? I've seen their Reading 2014 show on YouTube several times and I always assumed it was Bleed heavy because it was a more accessible crowd and they were probably there to see other bands anyway. Plus, it was right before the Futures tour, so I thought they were saving those songs for then. If they still play along the "play the singles" rules on their own headliners, then that's really unfortunate. They have such a diverse and gorgeous discography.

I like how Frank Turner does things as he usually plays a good portion of his new albums whenever he tours as well as playing a good mix of all his other albums, both the most popular stuff and less played songs based on requests and things like that. Plus every now and then he'll play a b-sides and album cuts show or something like that.
