Both songs are awesome to finally hear in full. I think my favorite of the 2 is actually Better Days, which is interesting since I think it was the opposite when I heard the discord clips a while back.
The end of the chorus in "honestly i" where it goes from double-time to full-time yet still sounds MORE powerful is just classic Yellowcard to me and hits all the right parts of my musical brain.
Both are incredible tbh. I'm also trying hard not to hit replay again. More than anything, the big melodic hooks are something that are taking me right back to listening to a lot of Yellowcard records for the first time. They just stick in your brain.
Yuuuup. And on the drive home today I realized the last chorus goes double > full > double again, which just brings it all to an awesome crescendo. Love that track, giving major Southern Air vibes.
I'm a sucker for anything behind the scenes. Would love to see videos from in the studio - maybe a Zane Lowe in interview like Blink did OMT.
Finally got a chance to listen to both on good speakers. The very beginning of honestly i gives me like “what if they re-recorded OFTK in modern times” vibes. Like it almost feels like an intentional throwback to rock star land or the hidden track or something when Travis is riding on the floor tom. Dig them both a lot! Gonna be a long wait for the rest haha
Great tunes. I felt like the drums were a bit too loud in the mix and was going to make a bad joke about Travis Barker producing the songs, but then I saw the conversation in here and realized it WAS Travis. I honestly had no idea he produced these songs until reading through this thread don’t be mad at me
was already intending on doing a full discog run because i've only ever listened to ocean avenue once and some other songs here and there (and bc i want to see them at warped), but it's good to know i have more fuel to do so because of the new record. super stoked to sink my teeth into this band's history.
I can't wait for you to experience Paper Walls, Southern Air, and Lift a Sail for the first time ever. Especially Paper Walls.
I may need to do a run through the back catalogue too. I missed a lot of the middle era of the band. One of my greatest high school memories was watching late night MTV with a buddy in middle/high school waiting for ocean avenue to play once every hour or so.
In their Twitch stream today, Ryan mentioned that Travis texted him and “had an idea for an album cover” and asked for pictures of his kids’ toys, then he took a bunch with his phone to send to him. The piano being one of those.
good songs. don't like either of them more than the best stuff on the EP (namely Hiding in the Light)
One Tree Hill had a lot of good music from the scene. I remember the first episode quite vividly having Finch's What It Is To Burn.
I think maybe I touched off that argument on this thread a couple weeks ago (my bad)... but i totally agree with you. I think this sounds great. most modern rock albums are gonna sound huge and punchy, and this while this does, its not done in a distracting way at all to me on these songs. ALSO, I'd love to see the original photo of this piano on the cover art. my brain cant comprehend how that piano on the artwork is an actual photo.
