This isn't the defense that you think it is and honestly incredibly dismissive of all victims.

In a scene where many fans have been victimized and abused by the bands they saw and loved, you can understand why some fans of Yellowcard might be disappointed to learn you're touring with a band that has the history of said abuse.

I think it'd be really easy to say "Hey I understand your concern for sure, we are aware and familiar of the situation and believe that since this person is no longer there/whatever you believe, this will be a safe situation and we will not be enabling shitty people, etc" and maybe that wouldn't be a perfect response for everyone but it'd at least be somewhat considerate

"You weren't there" is something people say about a myriad of harsh truths that they want to deny (that I won't get into). "This is an opportunity for [my] family" is something echoed by fans of a certain other maligned band who has had a member do terrible things to justify them coming back. I dunno. I feel for y'all YC fans who are hearing these things when you have concerns because I think it could've been a lot easier for y'all. Just a weird situation and weirder reaction

"you do you" is just an insane reaction to have in the face of a supporting fan's legitimate concerns lol

  6. could not have said this better myself. it really isn't any deeper than this lol

I would not risk alienating a thoughtful long-term fanbase by lashing out just because some of them have conflicted opinions about who you are CHOOSING to tour with. Then all you're left with are the yes-men dorks posting "ANYWAYS, who CARES about the choices we make, I'm here for the music mannnnnn!!!1"

How is simply expressing disappointment in the decision going “right into attack mode”? Prior to Ryan’s responses nobody attacked Yellowcard, they attacked (rightly!) ADTR and expressed disppointment that Yellowcard is associating with them. An extremely fair and reasonable position to take.

And yeah as others have said, Ryan’s response ain’t it. That’s pretty much exactly NOT what I wanted to hear. Disappointed is the least of it at this point. I was hoping for a better response given that Ryan is actually in this thread and reading what we are saying but I guess not. I am personally out on this band going forward, for whatever that’s worth. As someone who’s been a fan for over 20 years, since I was around 12 years old, attended the farewell tour show in NJ, and was extremely excited for new music, this situation really hurts.

Was the album art made with genmoji? Its terrible.

  9. No I actually took that photo of my son’s toy piano. Genmoji probably would have been easier though.

    I like the cover

I don't really like the text being on it but I think the lil piano with the "YC" is cute and works

Really don't think this is the way to defuse the situation and get us back to the point where we can actually have a meaningful intelligent conversation with a musician about a pretty important topic while we have the opportunity, although I understand they don't seem interested in having the conversation either.

yeah he skipped over all that talk and responded to me. I dont think meaningful conversation is in the cards. Still gonna listen to the album, just hate that art. And for the record I saw them last year opening for 3EB and they were great.

Honestly, I read his responses in reverse order until I realized I was someone he had responded to.

The more I sit on it, the more I believe my original post was a valid assessment of my own personal feelings about it.

The point of my posts was that I want and need to do better about my response and participation in art when these types of situations crop up.

Does this mean I write off Yellowcard forever? I don’t know, but I’m just one fan that doesn’t call on everyone’s conscience about it.

So “you do you” is valid in the sense that if I decide to step away, I can do so.

Love how these new people only comment once controversy comes to defend their favorite bands from warranted criticism. I love YC and hell I’ll probably still go to this tour if it comes near me, but the responses from Ryan are very disappointing.

Fans have valid concerns and it’s not like this is the first tour ever where bands got backlash for touring with questionable bands. I’d expect a more diplomatic, compassionate response than the typical excuses and outright dismissive rhetoric. It’s better to not say anything at that point if you’re just going to be short sighted. Also disappointed to see Ryan like other posts that are favorable yet ignore any valid responses to his posts.

This scene is already a cesspool that makes it difficult on victims to find closure, peace, justice, etc. which is why people take a hard stance on not associating with the people who make that possible and why they look up to the people they see as "elder statesmen" to set an example and not enable that behavior, even by inaction.

But sure, it's weird to care about other people when there's music on the way, right?

  21. Apologies if I offended anyone. Of course I support the victims and if anything I said led anyone to think otherwise I am sorry and I should have expressed my opinion differently. Someone mentioned I was using the “you weren’t there” argument. To be clear I was not referring to the victims, I was referring to the inner workings of how the band dealt with it behind closed doors. I guess from what I knew, the fact that he has not been in the band for half a decade meant the situation had been resolved. If us touring with them makes anyone feel like they need to move on I respect your decision. I’m looking forward to getting back out and supporting this new album.

you think it's just this scene? this scene is way more open than most. do you follow sports? do you see what's happening in politics? there is ZERO accountability there. no one is saying what happened is cool and ok. take the hard stances - that's fine. I've taken plenty of hard stances in the media I consume as well. my opinion is different from yours - and the tone of the last few pages has been way off and not representative of yellowcard or the scene. let's just chill and listen to good music created by a band we all love. skip the tour, don't skip the tour. whatever.

"Whataboutism" is really, really lazy. THIS SCENE attracts a much younger demographic and did wrong by young girls for YEARS. THIS SCENE can't possibly do enough to rectify that and instead has to do everything possible to make amends to victims and I strongly feel like every member of it (and especially every artist) has a responsibility to make sure that everyone feels safe.

I researched the allegations when they were first raised. Surprised no one has mentioned the legal limitations of ADTR. If there were multiple of SA, I didn't see them. The other incident was a car accident, not murder.

I would be surprised if legal limitations allowed band members to be forcibly removed for single allegations and a car incident, even with a death involved. Add into that that contractually they also likely couldn’t speak negatively of the member due to impact on the band’s marketability. I feel for the victims but something to consider.
