Did anyone catch Ryan's Twitch stream with Sean O'Donnell? Apparently they listened through their Big If demos and promised to release them to streaming services in the future. Big If true!! The Big If version of Bunny and Me was one of my favorite songs at the time. I think Sean rerecorded it for one of his albums but it didn't quite pack the same punch. I'd be over the moon if they properly released those demos.
Yessss those demos are so good, I would love to have them on streaming (especially if that means even marginally better quality than the rips in my Apple library)
Holy sh*t! I’m so sad that I missed this. Getting these songs on streaming would be an absolute dream come true!
for Big If, I have.... Bunny and Me, Always Almost, Bug Light, Empty Street, Hang You Up (2 versions), Hide, Monster, Red Carpets, Temp Job, Triple Please, When and You Went Gold
Would love to have the Big If songs in a form that wasn't ripped from MySpace over a decade ago haha. Pretty exciting!
I’m so glad I caught the stream. The sound quality difference was enormous compared to the rips out there we’ve had for 15 years haha. They played a demo that wasn’t released back then and it evolved into being “Be The Young” when they recorded WYTTSY -that was fascinating. The lyrics were much different. There was another unreleased one that i enjoyed- I think at the time they weren’t quite happy with it compared to the others. Also thought the Big If version of Bunny and Me was better then O’Donnell’s solo version. Same for Empty Street- the Big If version was way better then what ended up on “Yellowcard” IMO. They both said it would be easy to get these songs up on Spotify and promised they would . I would love to hear these two write together again! ( Should note that Mendez was a big part of Big If too)
i don't remember him ever playing anything but SGs or les paul's live up until about the time lift a sail came out but i think he's said in interviews he's always plays some fenders on the records.
here in SLC, Ryan was like "Last year, we played almost all of Ocean Avenue, but this year you're not going to know any of these songs, because we decided that we were going to play whatever the fuck we want to play! Just kidding." And then Mackin said, "He was kidding!" just as he and I made eye contact, and I mouthed "You're not kidding." And then he mouthed back, "We're not kidding." Hahaha.
Just as we did last year with the Ocean Avenue 20th anniversary medley, my buddy Gerry Trevino and I recruited a couple of friends to play through one of YC's most underrated songs, Gifts and Curses. We did it in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the release of Spider-Man 2. And yes, I am tired of everything that I love reaching a 20th or more because I can feel the arthritis flaring up as I type this. Hope you guys enjoy!
Caught the show last night in Cinci and they were so good. The crowd was a major bummer though. Group of bros squeezed in front of my family claiming "Were here for Yellowcard, Fuck 3EB" and then proceeded to only know Ocean Avenue and shouted as loud as they could at each other for the rest of their set.
