Holy shit. They brought us back to the Paper Walls era. F*cking love this. This EP is epic. Edit: I mean... The AUDACITY.
Man, I love the way the guitars sound on this EP. They are huge and chunky, but they honestly don't have that much gain and have a ton of clarity. If Mendez ever pops back in here, I'd love a rig rundown. haha.
They are the exact same tones from Lift a Sail. We used our Kemper profilers and those tones were modeled and saved when we made that record. They are the same tones we use love as well.
“Three minutes more might just save me this time” is such a brilliant line. Know it’s a theme that’s been covered a bit in self-titled but damn it hits hard. This song is HUGE!!!! The amount of ground it covers with tempo, riffs, melody/harmony, etc. is insane. Everyone in the band (including Nate) is absolutely on fire in that song.
Stoked you dig it! 100% of the tones on the EP came out of our Kempers. I’ll come back soon and give a detailed rundown of what the profiles are but as William said, they’re the tones we created for Lift a Sail and that we use live with exception of Childhood Eyes. Really happy with how everyone is receiving the EP so far, a LOT went into it and it’s really awesome to have it out in the world now.
Finally had a chance to hear the whole EP. It, of course, rules! Gets me even more excited to see them tomorrow night. What an incredible come back release. Firing on all cylinders.
This EP is classic Yellowcard. I’m not sure if they’ll play anything else off of it aside from Childhood Eyes at the anniversary show tomorrow but I’d love to see them perform Hiding in the Light. Stoked regardless.
I’ve had the biggest dumb smile on all day. The amount of chills inducing moments on this 5 song ep is incredible. The whole band shines. Incredible production, crunchy guitars, and soaring choruses. What a treat. I do hope there’s more on the way.
Just had a 2.5 hour drive to visit family. Had this on repeat almost the whole time. Here’s my hot take: Honest From The Jump is one of the best songs this band has ever done.
@williamryankey Any clarification on what's going on in the background vocals for Places We'll Go chorus? Distorted whispers? Soft screams?
I can't stop listening to it! There have been some bangers over the years, but this is my favorite YC song since Martin Sheen or JFK.
Honest From The Jump is shaping up to be my favorite, and already an all time favorite out of their entire discography. So glad to hear about the reuse of the Lift A Sail guitar tone. Always thought the guitars sounded absolutely massive on that record and the following too.
@williamryankey chris does this whisper type singing, he can do it because his range is so high. Just my take. Ryan could probably explain it better
I’m always oblivious to everything so learning today they are back, at least for an EP, was a fun surprise. Sorry if it’s been talked about to death here or elsewhere but I’m firmly in the camp of bands not saying they’re done or broken up. Not a hill I’ll die on or really care about but artists should just not do this. Maybe their companies or behind the scenes folks like it because it boosts streams or merch purchases (and maybe some bands themselves like to announce things for that reason too) in the moment but how many bands actually stay gone so what’s the point lol. Anberlin says hello from their own EP released this year after breaking up. I don’t think FOB, or Gaslight Anthem or other bands with long times between albums or tours or whatnot have ever said they’re broken up and with so many that come back it just seems like a “why bother saying that?” kind of thing since rarely it seems to stick. You don’t want to release an album for 10 years? Ok! Sure that will suck but don’t have to say you’re breaking up or on hiatus but I get that fans, family could become annoying after awhile constantly asking if you don’t say anything but then just say “not sure, who knows”.
