I can't remember if I did a ranking already, but if I did, then I'll fuckin do it again Paper Walls Lift A Sail Lights & Sounds Yellowcard Southern Air When You're Through Thinking Ocean Avenue One for the Kids
Spent some time with lift a sail this weekend, damn its so good it might have just moved up in my rankings.
Paper Walls Lift a Sail- starting to push Paper Walls for the top spot Ocean Avenue Lights & Sounds Southern Air Yellowcard WYTTSY For extra torture I tried to rank my top 5 songs: 1)Waiting Game 2)Keeper 3)Transmission Home 4) Fields & Fences 5) Rough Landing, Holly Honestly one of the most underrated catalogs of any rock band since the 2000s IMO. Saw them reunite at Riot Fest and was just blown away to see them together again and how much they crushed that night. I’m so happy for them getting to tour this summer and if we somehow are gifted another album- sheesh. Never thought any of this would happen after the farewell tour in 2016-2017. Wishing the guys all the best this summer!
I watched a John Mayer interview recently (say of him what you will) where he spoke about his record “Born and Raised”, and one of the things he said was really poignant to me and personally ties right in with my relationship with “Lift A Sail”, when he said “The fact that this record has grown over the years in terms of people's connection with it is hardcore proof that you shouldn't always make art for the moment you're releasing it in. Release week is one fraction of the lifespan of an album, and sometimes it's worth making a statement that blooms over time. Everyone who worked on this album knew from the beginning it touched on some rare magic. And that was always going to be enough - but the fact that it's found a place in people's hearts is a wonderful bonus, and proof that we weren't crazy in feeling like we'd made something meaningful.” To me, Lift a Sail will always be something that is the most special to you and the rest of the band. The fact that it has only grown on the fans is a testament to the quality of the music itself.
Title track on Lift a Sail is so so good. Side note: I remember The Deepest Well getting some hate back in the day, but man I love that song too.
Thank you! This song and album doesn’t get enough love. I didn’t expect this song to be the one that I’d choose to get handwritten when the option to get one came about, but it just felt right when narrowing down the options.
The one that I definitely didn’t fully appreciate back in 2014 is California. I think I was expecting some epic closer like the previous albums had, and that song is comparatively understated. But man, a few years ago something happening in my life made it finally click with me, and now it’s one of my favorite Yellowcard songs. Really incredible.
Lift a Sail has such a beautiful soundscape attached to it. Fantastic piece of art. What an album. Dang, we even used ‘Convocation’ as part of our wedding ceremony. It was perfect.
