Grab all the cash you can Yellowcard, however much it takes to sustain a living off being Yellowcard and me getting to come to shows and having one of my favorite bands active again! (You know, pending this is something they want to do)
I don’t think the band did anything malicious. I was making a joke about the number of bands who break up, do a farewell tour with a tone of finality behind it, and then come back a few short years later. I don’t think there was anything disingenuous about the breakup. I’m a fan of the band. I’m happy they’re back in any capacity.
I in fact did not pay more money. And I did see their final performance, pre reunion. Who cares? the band does not force anyone to go to a show. People are in control of their own money. I missed a ton of shows when I was barely living paycheck to paycheck. Someone not having self control is not the band’s fault. If someone makes a poor decision, it’s on them. They made their frustration happen. I don’t think I called anyone stupid? I said “this” being the discussion stupid, yea. It is very stupid. But work is super slow and I have nothing better to do.
It’s not an argument. Just a polite sharing of opinions through conversation. I thought an interesting point was made. I do think in 2022 seeing the trend of bands returning in some capacity, if it’s just touring or becoming fully active, I kind of the breaking up calling it quits thing may not be required on such a grand scale. And usually things things aren’t emotional announcements that aren’t though out. They are usually after some discussion and planning. I’m sure these bands didn’t expect to come back, but us fans love it when they do. It’s even more surprising when a band like YC who called it quits for multiple reasons like family and health reasons (Ryan has talked about the vocal issues that caused him havoc in multiple interviews). I still selfishly want the band to make new music. The topic of discussion isn’t really aimed a band who broke up and came back to play, but more now with bands moving forward. Pretty sure NOFX is doing a last tour ever. I think some fans will go the extra mile to see them play. If in the next 5 to 10 years the decide to tour again or do a festival Or make new music I’m sure fans wouldn’t object, but I do think it’s misleading.
But it's not misleading, because as far as they know right now, they're not reuniting. How is this not sinking in? Sure, never say never, but you can say that about the fans too, if it's so ambiguous.
Every show is the final show until the next show. Other people have different opinions. No need for trying to insult anyone.
Some entitled fanboy garbage going on in here. Bands have lives too and should be able to do whatever they want. We should appreciate whatever we get from them as they don’t owe us anything. Who cares if they go on hiatus, break up, etc and come back a few years later. Things change and it’s your fault for holding them to some sort of specific expectations that you think they owe you. Fans should know better than to take any break up or hiatus as a permanent status. Blame yourself for being naive if anything.
If they got back together and announced a divorce 2 years later and then got back together and then announced a divorce 2 years later how would you feel? Maybe suggest just a little break instead of something so final?
If your “different take” is a band should know exactly their life circumstances and how they’ll feel in the future, my take is: shut up.
I’d like to go on record and say the only band in the scene other than Jimmy Eat World that consistently does not miss is Yellowcard. Just an incredible discography.
I really just want an ocean avenue anniversary tour. That album was so transformative for me as a youngin, I’d love to see it front to back New music would of course be very cool, but just gimme that tour first and foremost
