Wow. I just read that Spin article. Ben really tries to upsell this as if he's still in YC like a sleazy salesman. "High Definition", "A brand new listening experience", "You hear and feel sounds you haven't before", and "Fans who grew up on this album will be blown away". Needless to say, I wasn't blown away with the new version of October Nights. It just sounded like I revisited the song while wearing much better headphones than I had the last time I listened to the album, which was years ago. Credit goes to the airpod pros.
Feels like a lot of bitterness there between a lot of the members. Crazy how the music stayed good while all the drama was going on during the bands duration.
I’m not sure. I know a Canadian label did a bootleg of it this year, so I tend to think that one hasn’t been sold.
I’m not sure there’s all that much bitterness really, but regardless this is just a super cringey move by two ex band members who did not need to go about this in such an unflattering way. Also:
The thing that hit a nerve with me was the suggestion in that Spin article that “Yellowcard is returning”. The band went out of their way to plan an amazing final tour and did so much for the fans during that last year. If they ever wanted to come back and tour or release something it should be on their terms - and i’m sure the fans would be fully supportive. To have two ex band members try to say the band is back because they decided to “remaster” a 20 year old record without discussion with half the band members that helped create it is just so lame, man. Grow up.
Do Ryan, Sean and Warren get a cut of the profits to go along with LP and Ben? Or does the label get all the profits because they own the rights? Glad WRK posted a bit of feedback. LP was a great drummer in the band and his style was very noticeable to me. The guitar and bass changes throughout the band history never seemed to. Ba he the music quality and I’m pretty sure Mendez was involved in production so he obviously played an important duel role.
Confirms the suspicions in this thread and the others - this is super lame and was done behind the backs of other band members. Hard pass for me.
I interviewed Warren this morning about the re-release for my podcast. I’m hoping to speak with Ben and LP, too. When I put up the episode, I’ll post a link in here.
According to Discogs there's gonna be well over 5,000 copies of this repress. I remember the original pressing being frequently discounted at Hot Topic back in the day too. This is a shit show. FIRST PRESSING (August 2012) 287 - Orange 300 - Yellow 317 - White 500 - Clear (Hot Topic exclusive) 15 - Test Press SECOND PRESSING (August 2022) 300 - Red/Black (hand poured) 300 - Red/Orange (hand poured) 300 - Light Green (hand poured) 300 - Dark Green (hand poured) 600 - Neon Orange 600 - Swirl 600 - Iridescent Red 600 - Iridescent Blue 600 - Standard Blue 600 - Clear Yellow 600 - Standard Yellow 1000 - Black
I guess the new version is considered a “remaster”, so I will differ from the first pressing. Still crazy that they didn’t even contact WRK and Sean.
Here’s the link for the interview I did with Warren. We talk a lot about the re-release. We spoke a couple of weeks ago. Having A Blast with Kyle Devlin: The Warren Cooke from Flag On Fire and Yellowcard Episode on Apple Podcasts
There’s definitely not enough demand for this subpar YC album haha what are these yahoos thinking? No way they’re going to come out even, let alone make any profit.
Five years since their final show. One of the best decisions I ever made was flying out to Anaheim to be there for that night. Miss these guys.
Yuppp. Saw them in San Diego twice right before they broke up. Will never forget it. They were so good and the crowd delivered. Such amazing sets with a great deep cut selection.
Listened to When You're Through Thinking and Southern Air yesterday and decided that they were somehow even better post-hiatus.
While I like When You're Through Thinking and Southern Air a decent amount, it’s all about Ocean Avenue and Lights & Sounds for me. Nothing has hit the highs of the latter either IMO
