I mean I heard that the blurred lines lawsuit set precedent for this kinda thing, similar to how lil nas x is also now being sued.
Ok I tried to ignore this but I had to come back to it bc lmao like. This is an absurd statement. A band is supposed to sound similar to itself lmao it’s the same people making the music. And if a band wanted to remake the same exact song but change 2 words they can do that bc they wrote the song. Totally different than if someone else tried to write the same song lmao
I must say, I'm shocked by this one. Sure there is similarity, but I certainly don't feel like it's lawsuit-worthy. I'd love to agree with Yellowcard because I love their music, but I can't in this case.
If I were a pop punk band from the early 2000s who decided to sue someone for more money, I would simply choose any of the pop punk bands that came after me.
In any case, looks like Ryan and Sean have spoken to LP again given he's named in the lawsuit (unless there's some way for them to get around that, I honestly have no idea about legalities such as this).
Maybe Chad (NFG) got into Ryan’s Head. Remember that time Chad went on a rant saying One Direction’s intro to Steal My Girl was a rip off of It’s Not Your Fault? Lolol
You clearly didn’t understand a word I said. Not that I owe you an explanation, but there are multiple instances of bands blatantly recycling vocal melodies even within the same albums (notice that I said literally nothing about the legality of this - comprehension is key!) to a degree far greater than what’s going on here. Not too difficult to understand I was saying these songs don’t sound that similar, especially not to the extent that would warrant a lawsuit. Thanks for the condescension though!
I mean it’s within the conversation of lawsuits so I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that’s what you were commenting on but go off I guess
I can tell you that there's almost a zero percent chance of that. It was likely all handled through legal teams, agents, etc.
I've never listened to Juice WRLD, but I can hear it at 1:09-1:18 and 1:32 - 1:41. If you were to ask me "what yc song it sounded like" I think I'd think of Holly Wood. 20/20 though so who knows.
they are fighting it, but here's a good summary Katy Perry and Capitol Records Owe $2.78 Million in Christian Rap Song Trial
If some representation didn’t think there was a case they wouldn’t have brought a lawsuit forward. Doesn’t mean they wouldn’t win. also, I feel like this is more a representation legal battle.
I’m confused. I’d go see a Yellowcard reunion show if they did one, but this lawsuit has no impact on me liking this band, or their legacy. I really think liking back on this band, the one unfortunate thing was seeing the number of member changes and wondering why.
More: Juice WRLD Hit With $15M 'Lucid Dreams' Copyright Lawsuit From Pop Punks Yellowcard Yellowcard's attorney, Richard Busch, issued a statement about the lawsuit in which he explained, "This was not a lawsuit the guys wanted to file. They put all of the parties on notice a long while ago and gave them every opportunity to try to resolve it. That notice was pretty much ignored leaving them with no real choice. As alleged in the Complaint, this is not just a generic Emo Rap song, but is a blatant copy of significant original compositional elements of Holly Wood Died in several respects. Beyond that, everything we have to say is in the Complaint.
I have a bunch of friends who are into Juice WRLD and never liked Yellowcard. I sent Holly Wood Died in the group chat and they all remarked it had a very similar tempo and vocal melody to Lucid Dreams. They all also agreed the lawsuit is stupid.
