My Top 20 huh? 1. Hollywood Died 2. Awakening 3. Back Home 4. The Takedown 5. Lift a Sail 6. Be the Young 7. Rough Landing Holly 8. Surface of the Sun 9. The Sound of You and Me 10. Paper Walls 11. Always Summer 12. Southern Air 13. Keeper 14. Cut Me, Mick 15. Sleep in the Snow 16. Life of Leaving Home 17. Down on My Head 18. Hide (Acoustic) 19. Only One 20. You and Me and One Spotlight Wayyyy too hard, I hated having to leave out: Way Away, Breathing, Ocean Avenue, Empty Apartment, Waiting Game, How I Go, Rivertown Blues and Soundtrack. I'll have to try that! On my jam (that's always changing since Lights and Sounds came out) I've had Three Flights Up in front of Waiting Game, Breathing and Surface of the Sun. Three Flights is such a great little instrumental piece, it always makes my mix.
Wow, this was hard. I got it down to 30 and still couldn't fit in Waiting Game, What Appears, and Fragile and Dear. Surface of the Sun Holly Wood Died Empty Street Believe Lights and Sounds Shadows and Regrets Rough Landing, Holly Fighting Gifts and Curses I'm a Wrecking Ball Lift a Sail Paper Walls The Takedown Way Away Southern Air Illuminate Avondale Five Becomes Four How I Go Words, Hands, Hearts A Place We Set Afire For You, and Your Denial Fields and Fences Breathing Awakening Bombers The Deepest Well Rock Star Land Rivertown Blues City of Devils
All these lists show that while all different, they are still all fantastic. I can't think of many other bands that have such an amazing discography. I know we've talked b-sides on here before, but I've always really liked When We're Old Men.
The show last night in San Diego was awesome. Sold out, crowd sang back on every song, Ryan got emotional, Like Torches murdered it, and the drummer killed it for YC. Lift a Sail was surprisingly my favorite song they played live. Probably because Ryan got emotional when the crowd sang back. I was emotionally attached to that song when they played it live. Shocked myself bc I never really cared for it on the album. The bridge in What Appears...Holy shit was it huge live. The outro to Holly Wood Died was another major highlight for me too. Very bittersweet show.
Probably an unpopular opinion but if we're gonna talk about the shows and setlists in this thread, can we at least spoiler tag the songs?
Fuck yeah Space Travel! Great song. I'm really bad at ranking in general but Holly Wood Died and Keeper are probably my top two Yellowcard songs.
This is the best I could do with a top 10. But it changes based on season, mood, etc. Very difficult to make when the band has so many good songs. Gifts and Curses Rough Draft Hollywood Died Empty Apartment City of Devils The Sound of You and Me Cut Me, Mick Southern Air Space Travel Be The Young
Dude, Rough Draft electric is great! I love the acoustic much more though. I remember back when YC was doing the live stream while recording Southern Air..I asked Key about the electric version if RD and he was surprised that I knew about it and that its floating in the interwebs. He told me something along the lines of that being in a compilation way back when. Now that we are in the discussion about "secret" electric versions of OFTK songs...have you ever heard the Cigarette in full band electric mode?
I spent this long going through this thread just to end up at song rankings haha should have known. I've also had weeks to get my thoughts togethr on this album and I still can't do it. I do love it, though. Also, I realllllly want to hear the Here I am alive with Patrick stump!! I'm bummed there aren't any b-sides for this album, I really just want to cling to more songs..
1. Ocean Avenue 2. Hang You Up 3. Always Summer 4. Afraid 5. Southern Air 6. Here I Am Alive 7. With You Around 8. Keeper 9. Gifts & Curses 10. Miles Apart 11. October Nights 12. Rough Landing Holly ... stuck...
I'm so extremely happy I got to see Ocean Ave in full last night, what an experience. Band truly sounded amazing, I was super impressed
By the way "Youre feeling boxed in by the youth you've left behind" Is the line of the record for me. My god.
Completely agree. I think I can safely say that it's at least tied with L&S and SA (I can never decide which of the two I like better) for my second favorite album by them. I think it's going to become my favorite pretty soon, although it's too soon to say for surer that it is.
I think I've settled on this being my second favorite Yellowcard album. Doesn't quite pass Southern Air for me.
