I just think it falls flat compared to the albums that came before it. Vital will always be my favorite work by them.
man, The Hurt Is Gone is moving up to be my favorite on this record. i'm finding more and more to love on here.
Does anyone else think that the drum beat that kicks in during the distortion part of Fields & Fences sounds like a heartbeat? On the last track of the last record, it's like a sign that their music will live on.
Ryan, are there any alternative track listings to any of the albums before they appear as they do now? What is usually the process of selecting which track goes where in the ordering?
Haha oops! I was going off of what someone else told me. That's awesome! Congrats Ryan! Debuted pretty well on the charts too.
damn, this tour snuck up on me. didn't realize my dates were next weekend!! like, i'm already scheduled at work, fuck. i'm gonna try and get to that Sac date, someone else can cover my shift, to hell with it
tonight was rly fun. been seeing this band since they came back in 2011 and p much grew up to/with them and it was cool to get to relive their discog. lift a sail & transmission home were definitely the highlights of the set. it makes me sad how underrated that album was and I'm still kicking myself for missing that show (and illuminate!!!) v happy I finally got to see these live tho setlist was super good and super long. despite this I enjoy complaining about everything so I will say that I wish they'd swapped out cut me mick for paper walls, be the young for southern air, and October nights for rough draft or cigarette : -) v excited to see them again on Tuesday and maybe Wednesday too if it doesn't sell out by day of as an aside, why do people mosh to songs they clearly don't know????????
I've been sort of thinking about song rankings the past few days. I wanted to do top 20 songs, but when I listed all my favorites, I got up to 48. I'm still figuring out how to cut that down, if not to 20, then at least to 25 or 30.
Got it. Here'a (a version) of my dream setlist 1.) The Takedown 2.) Always Summer 3.) For You, and Your Denial 4.) Surface of the Sun 5.) The Sound of You and Me 6.) Sing for Me 7.) Lift a Sail 8.) The Deepest Well 9.) Sleep in the Snow 10.) Words, Hands, Hearts 11.) View from Heaven 12.) City of Devils 13.) I'm a Wrecking Ball 14.) One Year, Six Months 15.) How I Go 16.) Savior's Robes 17.) Southern Air 18.) Rocket 19.) Cut Me, Mick 20.) Starstruck Encore 21.) Convocation 22.) Gifts and Curses 23.) Sorry, Try Again 24.) Fields and Fences 25.) Ocean Avenue I imagine 11-15 being an acoustic set. EDIT: Had to swap out "Telescope" for "Lift a Sail," because goddamn. Still, "Telescope" is such an amazing, underrated song.
I got the FYE version of the album with the acoustic songs. I love them both! I'm not really a fan of "Hurt" but when I heard the acoustic version, I really liked it and made more sense to me in that form. I strongly prefer it. Speaking about song lists. I made my own "version" of the album, I took out the original full band version of Hurt and replaced it with the acoustic one. This is how I ordered the songs Rest in Peace What appears Got yours Hurt (acoustic) Leave a light on Wrecking ball Empty street Saviors Robes Set Afire Fields Fences In my YC jam playlist I put Three Flights Up right before Empty Street. I know it's not the same key and stuff but I like the combo.
