Also have to say it's pretty awesome to hear all of Ryan's thoughts in here. Thanks for taking the time to do this
nothing that Nate contributed to that album "sucked." And L.P. wouldn't have brought fills to that song. Drum wise, Lift a Sail, was exactly what it needed to be.
I feel like on an individual basis, "Here I Am Alive" is virtually the only song out of their discography that I just cannot get into even after a few years have gone by. Ugh. I've wanted to like it and I like my fair share of pop music, but I've just never been able to gel with that particular song. Probably the only reason I hesitate putting Southern Air as my favorite record of theirs.
Sorry, earthlight, and thanks jake! P S... I can't get over how good What Appears and Saviors Robes are!
Have done a number of spins on this album, really enjoy it. still taking it all in, too early to say where it will lay in my rankings, however, it's a very strong finale. Fields and Fences really brought the feels. Lights and Sounds is still my favorite Yellowcard album, second to that is probably Paper Walls and then Southern Air. It was really special yet bittersweet to be able to go into an album like a series finale. definitely happy with what they left us with, even though I'm still sad we didn't get an acoustic, piano, and strings version of the L&S album haha. To a band that always happened to release music just at the time I really needed it, I will miss them, and thank you.
I appreciate the great and honest response. You know I had really planned on trolling you during the meet and greet this year about the pens winning the cup and crosby winning conn smythe but I'm going to be too sad now so thanks for spoiling that for me
the drum roll buildup behind Ryan's vocals during the bridge of "Rest In Peace" (if you could go back....) that explodes into the violin solo is pretty excellent craftsmanship, really a fan of this song
Have had the long outro to The Hurt Is Gone stuck in my head. Really love the groove on that song, and I appreciate them just letting the music breathe at the end of the song. I still subconsciously avoid listening to Fields and Fences because it is a constant reminder that this really is it.
Crazy how much "The Hurt is Gone" has grown on me since it's initial release. Fits so well in the middle of this album.
What I really love is how all of the effects drop off after the initial build up. As soon as Ryan starts singing "boxing up the fireworks..." all the extra effects drop off and it sounds *awesome*. Really brings the focus to the lyrics.
I've been wondering for so long why it didn't get big. But i've wondered the same about 'With You Around' and 'One Bedroom'. Some things will never be answered. I just don't get it.
Anybody ever wonder what Saves The Day record they are talking about in With You Around? I hope it's Stay What You Are or In Reverie.
Well, considering he references 'Only One' in the song, Stay What You Are is the more likely option since it came out before Ocean Avenue.
Thanks! We will have a normal set and an OA set, which will consist of OA plus some more songs after that.
Thanks for the kind words. Ryan and I are both running Kempers, controlled by midi triggered by Ableton Live which is also running our click and tracks.
