Eh, I think Empty Street wouldn't have been so out of place on LaS. Has the huge sounding drums and same time of flow that a lot of that album had.

 

OK, I just finished my first listen. Wow. I think this is possibly the best thing they've ever done. Completely blew away my already insanely high expectations. I teared up a little bit when Rest in Peace came on, just because I knew this was it. I kept myself together until "A Place We Set Afire" and then I just lost it and was bawling for the rest of the album. The hurt is most certainly not gone. Well, Yellowcard, if this is the last time that we ever speak, you went out in the best way you possibly could.

 

Also, I think it was fitting that it started pouring outside halfway through "Fields and Fences"

 

This album is a perfect goodbye for the band. Been a fan for 14 years and grew up with their music. Can't believe this is it, but a hell of an album to go out on.

 

The record is in my hands and I'm weeping.

 

Damn, shout out to the bridge of What Appears for being in 7/4!

Is this all Nate Young on drums? Because his performance here is a lot stronger than his on Lift a Sail, and I do enjoy that album.

 

Yeah he did the drums for this album. Did a great job.

 

Yes, for all the negativity we sent at Nate Young for LaS, he definitely shattered all our expectations this time. Thank you Nate!!!

 

From all of the videos I watched and interviews I read, it definitely seemed like they had a tight grip on him as far as what they wanted him to play. They definitely gave him some more freedom on this one, and the songs are better suited for it anyway.

 

this album is what LAS should've been

 

Yeah, I was shocked at how good the drums were on this. Way better than LaS

 

I'm all for praising this album, but let's try to avoid putting down LaS to do so.

 

But it is one of their worst albums though

 

I mean, that's a matter of opinion, but saying something like this is what LaS should have been is pretty unreasonable. They're two albums that clearly went for different outcomes.

 

And beyond that, creatively speaking LaS is easily one of their best albums.

 

Yeah, I said that just to get a response. But seriously I think those two albums sound more alike than the rest.

 

Creatively? To me it was bland with weak bridges and electronic parts. Southern Air and PW are their best

 

They explored a lot of sounds and song structures on that album that they hadn't done before. Southern Air is arguably a perfect version of their pop punk sound and probably my favorite album by them, but it's definitely not as innovative as LaS.

 

I'll never understand the bridge criticism from LaS, seems like one of those talking points that one person says once and everyone repeats

 

Innovative is a weird term because it was new style for them I guess, but I wouldn't say they innovated anything. From everyone's ranking on here, I can see that people that love this album also love LaS and vice versa.

 

That may be true, I remember thinking when listening to Transmission and Crash that "man, its the same slow keyboard with no other music playing bridge". It's ok that you love it, it just didn't hit it for me. Still some good songs on there.

 

This album is going for a completely different sound than Lift a Sail and doesn't really sound like that album much at all. Not sure how it's "what that album should have been/was supposed to be."

 

I meant Lift a Sail, not Lights and Sounds lol.
