Yellowcard have dropped their copyright lawsuit against Juice WRLD.

In a statement, Busch noted that the decision to drop the case was made by the band.

“My clients are very sympathetic not only of Juice WRLD’s death,” Busch said, “but also needed time to decide whether they really wanted to pursue the case against his grieving mother as the personal representative of his estate.”

So I’m pretty ignorant of this whole process, so I would love if some one could chime in to correct me, but how much of this was really affecting Juice WRLD’s family?

I guess I’m just wondering if this is just a bunch of corporate people trying to drum up controversy or pity by bringing in his mom and family.

I’m just a little confused about how things should go if this was a legitimate case of copyright. Like just because someone passed away doesn’t mean money isn’t being made off of stolen ideas. But of course it feels really wrong to go for a lawsuit, especially with a tragic death of a young person like this.

Idk, someone help me figure this out. Lol

First of all, it started before his death. People seem to forget that. When he died, they made a statement about the tragedy of it all but explaining their stance with the lawsuit. Now it appears it's being dropped completely

The internet police judged like they knew it all and sent Yellowcard into the pits of despair. If YC feel their art was stolen they have every right to have filed suit. The demonization of the band by the public for exercising their rights is ridiculous. If it turned out per the courts and experts that YC's case was weak and they lost ... So be it. It's not like the band goes around randomly suing everybody that drops a track.

I agree with you on the legal basis. Up until the point where the person they accused of stealing their song died and his mother was replaced as head of his estate.

There is no longer any way to prove Juice WRLD ever even heard the song on top of putting his mother through a court battle there was no longer any reason to move forward with the case.

I've just listened to the two songs back to back and can't see which part YC think was plagiarized?

I mean, I 100% see the similarity, but the dude is dead, at this point it would be a callous money grab.

Him being dead is completely irrelevant

Legally sure, but it made it look really petty they were continuing mere months after he had died.
