Barely Alive is another great one. The closer, too. I don’t know if I really hear that much Blink/OMT on this, tbh. Mostly just sounds like Yellowcard produced by Travis to me.
It's one of the best songs on the album. You've still got it. What are the lyrics in the section with the vocal distortion?
I have very clear memories of driving to work on Friday Sept 30th 2016, listening to the self titled for the first time, crying my eyes out because this was the last album I was gonna get from one of my favorite bands. Tomorrow morning I'm gonna drive to work on a Friday again, probably crying tears of joy while listening to a new album from that same band.
Travis just came on one day and asked “have you guys ever done a shuffle song?” We said no. Then Bedroom Posters was born
Big Blue Eyes. Both my little kids have big blue eyes. Love the songs about marriage, family, etc. Super relatable. Fun to grow up with this band and have shared experiences without really knowing each other. Well written album man. So good.
Just wanted to to stop in real quick. First impression: this album is special. I was not prepared for City of Angels. It made me cry.
I was at that show as well. I lived in Irvine at the time, so I drove up for the one in LA the night before too. What a journey it's been. I don't have a ton to add that hasn't already been said, but this record is wild. Just perfection at a time I really needed it. Thank you @williamryankey
First listen done - the immediacy of it on the first run-through is incredible. Looking forward to delving deeper into it.
The juxtaposition of Ten and Big Blue Eyes is so beautiful. Southern Air is arguably my favorite album next to OA. The heartbreak I’ve experienced with resonating with the song Ten but also the similar joy from Big Blue Eyes all these years later means a lot. It’s nice to grow up with a band and mature in more ways than just sound.
The riff feels straight out of an early 2000s post hardcore song but somehow made into a pop punk/rock song and it works so well.
You know a record is special when a different song smacks you in the face with each listen. I'm on my third listen, and City of Angels is that song currently. Chills.
S/T came out at a time when I was ~going through it~, on my then latest year of college but so unsure of what I was doing there, so unconfident and full of early 20s anxieties about everything, feeling like I had no future and ending up dropping out afterwards etc. This album coming out at a time where I actually feel like going back to finish the degree I started back then, still anxious about a lot but with a different, much healthier outlook now at 30... I feel like this is being released at the right time for me. It's also super sunny today and the next few ones as well so it's like the stars are aligning to experience it the best way!!
So just say what you want, say what you want Take what you want, take what you want You know I give all I got, give all I got You still ask for more Effortlessly dropping one of their catchiest songs ever 11 albums in... okay!!
