I honestly don't think that the presence of a band member in a forum should be a reason not to speak one's thoughts. (One of the main reasons I tend to read but mostly skip this website is the fact that the owner is constantly rude to whomever seems to have a different opinion, whether he is right or not, and whether it's fairly exposed or not. But anyway). The song is bland: the chorus isn't really a chorus. But on repeated listens it might be the fact that production wise it doesn't really explode as much as it could. It seems like this was a choice; it doesn't help the song deliver though. This band has given us loads of incredible records with huge choruses and memorable ones; this isn't one of those.
The new song is amazing, and I cannot wait for the whole EP in July. I will see you at the show in Boston, MA on July 9!
Its the way Jason has always been, nothing new and its the worst part of this site and makes me distance myself from more and more.
The thing is, this is a perfect post to quote with regards to speaking one’s thoughts. You aren’t closing with “in my opinion this isn’t one of those.” You are definitively saying “this isn’t one of those” as if it is fact. When in fact, the song is the number three most streamed song of our entire catalog over the last seven days and for every 1 dislike there seems to be 100 likes. So of course, you are entitled to your opinion, but when critiquing someone’s work or art, be considerate with your words. I think that’s all we ask.
Well said, man. I also think things can get taken the wrong way on the internet. Something you take as a slight may not be intended as one.
Can you point out what in his post was overly defensive or sarcastic? Everything he said was literal fact. We have no problem with someone having an opinion that they don’t like something, but the post he quoted had someone stating their opinion as if it’s objective and definitive fact, when it’s simply not. What’s the problem with anything he said?
I think he's referring to this specific post from Ryan (not saying it's justified, just clarifying). Personally, I'm happy you guys are back making music again. Some people will like it, and some won't. Please don't pay more attention to the people who dislike it than the people who like it!
When I first head the song I felt a little underwhelmed. I was hoping for an "always summer" or "For you, and Your Denial" punch in the gut. I can honestly say after giving it more of a chance, I love this song now and can definitely hear the southern air and paper walls influences in it. I've probably listened to it like 30 times now haha I love the bass lines in southern air and this song definitely has that vibe. I can't wait for the EP to be released and I'm so glad to have the band back together with new music!
