That last run of 3 (Mary Turner Mary Turner/Scissssssors/Normal Love) was so damn overwhelming. Had to unplug my headphones and take a walk
this thread threw me down the XX rabbit hole and have been listening to all the records this is a very special band
I always dug Fabulous Muscles, although it’s been a long time since I last listened to it. I just never connected with anything else they’ve done. But their last two albums were really great and will be delving into the rest of their stuff soon.
The way I reacted seeing this thread get bumped by you in my notifications Which album are you listening to?
Just finished Fabulous Muscles and really loved it. I found a "where to start" guide by someone on Reddit that is very nicely detailed, and I think I'm going backwards to A Promise now. They have always been on my list to check out, but have also always felt intimidating for some reason. Even without hearing the rest, Fabulous Muscles really felt like a great entry point. Kind of shocked at how...not terribly aged it felt.
It's cool that someone made a nice guide for that because yeah the discography can be daunting to enter for sure. Knife Play or Fabulous Muscles are absolutely the entry points I'd recommend, glad to hear you loved FM!
Obviously they predate at least one if not all of these acts. but it's pretty interesting to hear bits and pieces of what feels like The Faint, Sufjan, and Black Country, New Roads all in one project. edit: Low, too. What should sound like a hodgepodge of subgenres really feels like its own thing in a cool way. Not sure if I can listen to more than two of these albums at a time though, tbh. Pretty dark and complex stuff
