Gillen was pretty good, glad he's back. Still a bit sad we're not getting Hickman's full story/planned conclusion though

Gonna be awkward if Destiny of X ends up with the most across-the-board exciting line of the Krakoa era, only for nerds to still be talking about Hickman, lol. Even though his real greatest accomplishment was creating a launching pad for other people's books, and then assembling a great office of writers to carry those books while serving as those writers' biggest cheerleader and defender at the company.

Anyways, this looks cool. With all due respect to Duggan's work on Kate Pryde, this looks like it's gonna be an overall upgrade.

Did you read his Uncanny? When I got properly into comics as an adult, I intentionally skipped all the Fraction & Gillen stuff because there's just so... much... Greg... Land... but I kinda wanna go back and get the non-Land Gillen issues. Love the modern take on Sinister, which was apparently his doing.

I did read his Uncanny stuff. I remember liking it, though I don’t remember much off the top of my head. I do recall that his Sinister was a lot of fun.

EDIT: I just refreshed my memory a bit. And yeah, I did like the Gillen stuff but his run was mired a lot by other “events” like Fear Itself and AvX. But he had a grasp of the characters and I share his affinity for cosmic X-Men stories.

This tweet is an annual tradition, and it’s good every time.

[Also topical, was reading (adjective-less) X-Men #109 earlier. Christmas issue of the cast just hanging out, written by Claremont on his way out of the failed Revolutions reboot, leading directly into X-Treme X-Men. Mutants hanging out without any action, especially with Claremont dialogue, is always fun. Also has a few other Christmas stories reprinted in the back, including UXM #143 w/ Kitty & the Brood. Top tier dollar box purchase.]

Probably gonna go with Monet, partly because she's a legit frontrunner who's great and partly because I want her in Marvel Studios' X-Men plans early on (which is more likely if people there notice she has a strong fan base). But, also very tempted to throw my support behind Siryn.

I have a soft spot for Armor for reasons I can't really explain.

Tempted to vote Firestar just for the "Amazing friend" slogan, but she's a cop so

I'm really confused about how they're using "cop" in this context, because it seems to have nothing to do with police.

I'm assuming it's because she's a mutant who's always associated more with humans/the Avengers than the X-Men and the mutants

I mean, I get what they're trying to say, I just don't understand what it has to do with cops. It seems like a weird slang to use. I mean, by all means fuck the police, but I'm not making the connection between the two, I guess.

Also, does this make Namor a cop? Is Ms. Marvel a cop for the Inhumans?

It's dumb. It's dumb and I dislike everything about it.

That being said, if the Avengers are cops, and Spider-Man is an Avenger, and if the police hate Spider-Man, where does that leave us?

Well, Spider-Man is not an Avenger, so we're all good.

Isn't everyone who's been an Avenger still a reserve?

Depends on which comics you read and which other comics you choose to worry about while reading them.

Kinda like how, from the perspective of X-comics, the Avengers often serve the roll of cops.

The Champions are all cool, though.

I miss the days when superheroes were all friends who fought evil together, and not a microcosm of our own shitty world.

    Pepperidge Farms remembers.

Guess I'll pause to mention that "the Avengers are cops" is kind of an X-fandom thing... guess you could call it a meme? But it's one based on an actual honest reading of X-Men history.

Like, it's a funny ongoing joke, but it's one that also genuinely gets at how traditional superhero storytelling, if taken seriously (one can debate how serious the genre should be taken, I guess), can easily have fascistic undertones. Which, is so much of a component of superhero comic history that the earliest works tackling it head-on go back multiple decades, and leaning into it for "mature" superheroes is passé.

Anyways, yeah, Firestar being more associated with the Avengers than the X-Men is a pretty good case for her showing up in Duggan's X-Men, imo. Fun story potential there. Just, less interested in that personally than I am in Monet.

Maybe the best part of Bendis's run on X-Men was the dynamic between the Avengers and X-Men and actually really exploring that "Avengers are cops" idea

I love Bendis Uncanny so much. That take on Cyclops, that Chris Bachalo and Kris Anka art, Eva Bell and the other new kids... so much going for it, imo. I know what I'm about to say isn't a high bar, lol, but gotta be the best run under the name "Uncanny X-Men" after the original Claremont epic.

I don't know I liked Gillen's run focusing on the Extinction Team post-Schism. Really wish we could've gotten more of that before everyone (wrongfully) decided Scott was a terrorist or whatever, but alas. Events and crossovers must come first

Also, off-topic, I'm finally getting around to the Academy X era of New Mutants/X-Men. That complete tone shift after House of M is intense

Bought some of that run recently and look forward to finally giving it a proper read. But, it's hard to believe a run that's 25% Greg Land and 50% AvX can, on average, match Bendis Uncanny, lol. Thank goodness for Immortal X-Men coming up.

Oh for sure as a whole the Bendis run is better than Gillen's, but that first arc with Sinister is a ton of fun
