I think Ewing has a fantastic voice for Kitty, and did a great job of moving her past that whole murder ninja thing without ignoring that happened. Love her trying to find herself, and wrestling with PTSD, and wondering what the point was of all she went through. And, Carnero made her look great.

Also love that they’re being allowed to really take their time. Like, this first issue only had Kitty and Bronze, no costumes, no supervillain. Modern Marvel tends not to allow a book to cook like that. Hopefully it sells enough to not be canceled by this time next year.

Cool that Iceman will be joining Kitty and Emma. I don’t need to see too many other established character joining the cast (curious to see more from Bronze and meet the other two kids), but I’d kill to see Karma show up eventually.

Glad this thread was bumped the day after Exceptional X-Men #2 came out, because that book still fucking rules.

Love that Eve Ewing is being allowed to make the “third flagship” in a big new X-Men “era” shift such a character-driven slow burn, with such perfect art for that kinda book. Issue one was Kitty and the first kid; issue two added the other two kids; after teases, Emma won’t get her turn until next issue; Iceman after that. And, through it all, no real sign of a “villain,” instead having very human and grounded conflicts thus far.

Marvel loves to not support their ongoings and give them consistency, but if they don’t screw things up, this is gonna become one of 21st century Marvel’s absolute best series for new readers (which is a great thing to have in a franchise as dense and heavy with lore as X-Men, right when it’s gaining multimedia & pop culture momentum again). And, apart from that silly “how does this help the mega company” perspective, lol, it’s just… good comics.
