Anna Paquin Recalls Watching X-Men Costar Hugh Jackman Achieve Global Fame While Still Being ‘Kind’ (Exclusive)
Who’s everyone’s relatively obscure X-man that you love for no good reason? First one that comes to mind for me is Cannonball. To this day I don’t know what he does, where he’s from, hell I don’t even know what his power is. But I had a Cannonball toy growing up and it was one of my faves for some reason
@Penlab, since you’re an Armor fan, and into anime… you should really read Ultimate X-Men (2024) by Peach Momoko. There’s only one issue out so far, so it’ll be easy to get into. And, you can read it with nothing else and be fine. (And, since it’s written with a bit of a decompressed manga style, it’s a fairly quick read, so you can probably make time to read full issues fairly easily?) And, it fucking rules so far.
Imagining you reading about his power after that long speech about how cool Cannonball is and being like "Wait, he does what?" and then all that enthusiasm drains away and you become this meme:
I've been waiting for Surge to get her moment in the sun again for years. That whole Academy X squad got done so dirty by House of M completely derailing the X-line. Even when they picked back up with another young X-Men team post-Messiah Complex, it was basically a whole new roster (even though they had literally just set up Surge to be the new field leader of the X-Men but whatever...) I've been settling for crumbs from Surge and Hellion ever since
I was the right age with the right tastes to find a lot of those Academy X kids neat, but I don’t think that actual material is that much of a gem in retrospect. Some less than great stuff both before and after the Decimation. One thing that class really exemplifies for me is the tendency to create too many young mutants. Which is particularly complicated by the way the older characters can’t really age. You get this unwieldy cast, with characters with vaguely defined ages and peer groups, with diehard fans for every random blorbo, that’s a lot for the publishing line to manage. At least there’s now a fairly robust digital comics program on Marvel Unlimited, which gives more space for more characters without the cutthroat demands of physical single issue sales.
She's a side character in the recent Bishop: War College miniseries (I thought it was just okay). But yeah, I hope they have something more prominent for her in the new era. There's gonna be a bunch of titles so hopefully she's in one of them!
This episode is suuuuch a 90s Saturday morning cartoon type episode. Haha! So good. The 16-bit stuff reminds me of the TMNT Shredder’s Revenge game and now all I want is for those companies to make an X-Men version of that game.
I enjoyed this episode a lot more than last week. Seeing the Easter eggs of X Factor and others, I really want an X-Force or just something 2000s based eventually.
