So dope. So what stops Disney from making Spider-Man '97? Don't they own animation rights, while Sony owns film rights?
Probably because they already committed to their own Spider-Man animated series. Maybe they’ll bring back Christopher Daniel Barnes as Spidey in this though.
Just finished up TAS for the first time. Overall, it was great! But that last season, especially the last five was kind of rough. The change in animation studios was so abrupt there. Beast suddenly has a much smaller head, Rogue’s whole look changed, it was so weird. I guess the Rogue look for 97 is kind of more like those last handful than the rest of the series. Pumped to be up to date and ready for 97 next month.
Looks like the first news of the next era of X-Men comics is dropping next Thursday, at a SXSW panel. (The panel is about both the X-Men and digital comics, with someone connected to NFTs as one of the panelists, lol. In 2024, really??? *sigh*) Gail Simone will be there. And, she’s a writer on the X-Men #700 Krakoan finale. So, looks like all of us who pointed to the FCBD Simone credit were probably right, lol. She’s definitely one of the best possible options realistically available to Marvel. Jed MacKay will also be there, which could be tied to some kinda digital initiative, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on a book, too.
Some further thoughts: I could see MacKay & Stegman X-Men having the broadest appeal… but it’s the least exciting of the three “flagship” announcements to me. Idk. Doesn’t look bad, but doesn’t look like something I’d need in my life right now. Simone & Marquez Uncanny is the most appealing at the moment to me. Just wish there were another preexisting nonwhite character there. Hopefully it expands for the better. But, Jubilee & Rogue & Logan drawn by Marquez, with Simone writing? Bet it’ll be a super fun UXM run. Eve Ewing getting a book with Carnero on art is also super cool. It’s just… also more of a question mark to me, with all the new characters (who look cool). As with Gail’s book, I think another preexisting character would help a lot. So weird to me that Storm is getting a solo book down the line instead of leading an initial flagship, and that Marvel made Kamala a mutant but didn’t make Ms Marvel one of the books teased. There being something called “NYX” but with a classic X-Men font is very funny. Curious how the rest shakes out, with what creatives, etc. Very glad the mutants seem to be way more decentralized after five years of Krakoa, lol.
Creative teams are cool. Great writers, exciting artists. But I’m not sold on this at all. Looks kinda underwhelming as a Krakoa follow up, which I guess is to be expected. I’ll read them all of course. But yeah pretty down on it and hope great writing can pull me around.
Love it. It's like seeing an old friend again. Looking forward to seeing more of the character that appears at the end of second episode!
Madelyne Pryor Morph's just kinda been like Wolverine's buddy. Morphing into some fan favorite characters. They haven't mentioned them being non-binary yet
