What’s a good run for someone just getting back into reading comics, loved the x-men but only knows the classic lineup?
I read Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men, Morrison’s New X-Men, Age of Apocoalypse and Ultimate X-Men. So early 2000s ish stuff when the movies were out
I think you should start with House of X/Powers of X by Jonathan Hickman, Pepe Larraz, & R.B. Silva. If you're buying a paperback or hardcover book (or buying digital), it's a single book called "House of X." If you're doing Marvel Unlimited, I'm pretty sure they have the two interconnected miniseries collected into a single playlist to follow. That 2019 event is the beginning of the modern era, sometimes called "the Krakoa era." All the X-books relaunched under this radical new status quo, with Phase One being called the "Dawn of X." After a big crossover (mostly driven by Hickman's monthly X-Men series and Tini Howard's Excalibur) called X of Swords, they entered a Phase Two called "Reign of X." And, we're about to enter Phase 3, "Destiny of X." The decade+ you'd be skipping to get to this has some good stuff you should eventually go back and read, but HoX/PoX is the first great, defining X-Men story since Morrison's New X-Men. And, it's kind of a soft reboot (not in a way that ignores anything) that's a perfect jumping on point for a returning X-fan.
I just read that Armor is in second place; Firestar has the lead. You can do it, Armor! You're the little engine that could! Narrator: Armor would not do it.
I’m wanting to custom design a varsity jersey and put an X-Men patch on it. I was thinking navy blue and yellow, but I’m not sure if it looks too odd.
This looks amazing I voted Armor too but I kind of hope that she keeps getting nominated and losing and they work that into a story.
I’m always down for anything 90s X-Men. Would it be worth it to reread House of X or will this be more of a reimagining instead of a continuation? Or is this a continuation of the original X-Men ‘92??
Yes. It’s a new XM92 miniseries, probably inspired by the show being watched a lot on Disney+ and upcoming XM97 revival. I’m guess it’s the same continuity as the other 92 comics they put out during and after Secret Wars (which I assume is a separate continuity from 97). They just thought it’d be neat to make it a variation on HoX/PoX. But, yeah, while 100% unnecessary, it’s never a bad idea to reread HoX/PoX, lol. Especially now that Inferno is done, so it can be a full Hickman X-Men read.
As long as AXE: Judgment Day is mainly written by Eternals and Immortal X-Men writer Kieron Gillen, with very minimal plotting assistance from his former Star Wars collaborator Jason Aaron (whose Avengers run I simply cannot believe is still meandering along)... it'll be good. Hopefully the obligatory event spectacle is well drawn, and hopefully the core conflicts lean more heavily into mythological soap opera drama. Should be interesting seeing how the similar story elements in current X-Men and Eternals comics interact.
I would be extremely excited if the Avengers were a part of that. But for now I’ll keep my expectations in check because of their involvement
https://www.ign.com/articles/x-men-face-off-winner IGN had a vote for the best members of the X-Men and of course Wolverine was #1
I am so eager to see what Kieron Gillen does with Exodus, especially after the episode of Cerebro on him. That character has a lot of interesting potential.
Just ordered this fan zine about Siryn by Valentine Smith, who's an awesome artist Marvel should hire and whose episode of the Cerebro podcast about Siryn (Theresa Rourke Cassidy) made me fall in love with the character. It's a really good 10-page fan comic you can read for free here:
Immortal and Red are off to very good starts. Very excited to see who else ends up on the Brotherhood and on Brand's X-Men
Writer Leah Williams (X-FACTOR, TRIAL OF MAGNETO) and artist Carlos Gómez(AMAZING SPIDER-MAN BEYOND) will take Dazzler, Jubilee, Boom-Boom, and Wolverineon a chaotic ride through a dark corner of Marvel’s underworld in a new limited series titled X-TERMINATORS. Influenced by grindhouse films, fans can expect plenty of blood, sweat and sweet REVENGE in this refreshing new take on Marvel’s merry mutants! In typical X-Men fashion, what starts as a wild night out gets even crazier when Jubilee, Boom-Boom, and Dazzler are kidnapped and put into elaborate death traps by a mysterious new army of enemies. What are three fierce mutants with the power to blow things up to do? Expect a hardcore, neon-fueled, down and dirty type of adventure unlike any seen before in X-Men history with all the light blasts, fireworks, time bombs, and brawling you can possibly hope for! “I’m excited about how gleefully transgressive this book is—it’s sexy, stupid, and chaotic,” Williams said. “One of my favorite moments in the making-of this book was Jordan[D. White] asking, ‘What do you think... Parental Advisory for this book? Or just T+?... I am leaning PA.’” This sounds fantabulous. I cannot wait.
What exactly was the reasoning Moira has gone from multiple lifetimes of trying to save mutants to wanting to exterminate them? Is it just because they are allowing Destiny to exist? and do we think that was always part of Hickman’s plan? The whole thing, and now seeing it continue in Hellfire gala, just seemed like such a quick turncoat and out of nowhere.
