This movie was awesome. The critics are totally wrong with this one. This is the first X-Men movie I've seen where it actually felt like the whole team mattered and it wasn't just Wolverine & friends. It was really cool that Cyclops had a far more prominent role in this one compared to previous entries in the series. I hated that he was so wasted in the original trilogy. That final battle was some of the best superhero action of the year in a really strong year for superhero movies. Definitely the most "fun" entry in the series. This movie makes me excited for a sequel. I just hope Mystique isn't in the next one as much, I would rather see Cyclops as the leader. Also, I hope they do more with Storm in the next one.
This year has really reminded me not to trust the critics on superhero movies. Kinda wanna go see this again.
Not sure how people can say the CGI in this movie was bad. The Quicksilver scene in particular looked incredible.
And a lot more than I thought of that scene was practical. The special effects were definitely too noticeable in some parts from what I remember, but nothing was as annoying as how clunky Iron Man looked whenever he was w/o his helmet in CW.
Had its moments, but overall I wasn't really impressed. I dislike Jlaws Mystique. The Quicksilver scene wasn't as good as the first. I did like who they picked for the young Cyclops.. I think Psylocke had three lines? Dofp was better. Imo
I just watched DOFP last night and figured this is the best place to ask: is there any good explanation for how Charles was alive (and in his own body) after the events of The Last Stand?
Yes, but they don't explain it within the movie universe. In the directors commentary for the X-Men: The Last Stand DVD it is revealed that the man that Charles transferred his consciousness to was really his identical twin brother, whose mind had been destroyed at birth when Charles power's manifested.
Haha yeah I know. Ratner, man. It also flies in the face of what we were told previously in the continuity as previous films have established that powers develop at puberty, not birth.
I had that exact conversation with a friend a long time ago. "But why does he have a twin brother we never knew about and how were we supposed to know that was what was happening on screen if we never knew about him?" "Well that doesn't mean we won't find that out in future installments" (we never did) "Well then why does his paralysis transfer to his brother's body?" *Blank stare*
Seriously, Storm's one scene where she was an actual character was great, and Magneto stole the show AGAIN, and Jubilee was awesome in her nonexistent role, and I still care very little about Xavier and less about this Beast and Mystique. I just want to erase this trilogy and replace it with a Magneto film and a Storm film.
No, you don't. As long as you have seen First Class because that's what this film makes the most references to.
Fox announced 2 release dates for Marvel films in 2018. March 2nd & June 29th It's safe to say that one will be Deadpool 2 while the other will be either a main X-Men film (without Bryan directing because he will be busy with another film) or a New Mutants film.
I thought First Class was great, DOFP was pretty good too Hyped enough for this tomorrow. I went and bought The Wolverine, hoping it's good because Origins was garbage. But i think I'll watch it tonight
I honestly never got the hype for First Class. It's decent, and DOFP is better, I don't love either film. If I could trade both for a Fassbender Magneto solo film, I would in a heartbeat. Plus, then that terrible iteration of the potentially great character Emma Frost would have never happened.
And, yeah, I kinda hate The Wolverine a lot. Major wasted potential, like crazy. The healing factor angle was garbage. At least there was some cool action.
I liked First Class better because it had a lot more for McAvoy and Fassbender to do, and I though both were fantastic. Also liked the young team members. Didn't like that they killed off Darwin without seeing any real action though.
I really didn't like a single young cast member. I rewatched after liking the Hunger Games films thinking I'd like Mystique more, but I didn't. This iteration of Beast doesn't click with me at all, and I generally like the character. Neither does Havok. Killing Darwin upset me because of the trope of killing off black characters, but I didn't miss him. I dunno. Thank goodness this film brought in Storm. I need some characters to get behind. First Class at least has Fassbender killing Nazis, and DOFP at least has Fassbender, Jackman, and those visually spectacular Blink powers.
I wish Storm had any impact at all. Apocalypse's control on them was really weird. Nothing about it made a ton of sense.
