None of the critical voices I respect thinking much of the film have me deciding I'll skip this one. I've never really liked Singer's directorial vision anyway, despite a few things he's done well.

Maybe I'll visit this and DOFP sometime down the road.

It was ok. Had too many narrative pieces to push.

Wow, this movie was horrendous... I was so temped, multiple times, to walk out but I didn't want to piss off my friend - only to find out he hated it and wanted to leave, too. Everything about his movie was a joke, but that CGI was some of the absolute worst I've seen in a while.

This movie was super disappointing, but I think it left the pieces on the board for a spectacular sequel. Hopefully Jennifer Lawrence actually moves on, the next film can completely focus on the new team. I wonder if there will be another time jump to the 90s? Also, I surprisingly really like the actor who played Nightcrawler. I don't even care that he had "emo" hair, he was a standout for me.

Was anyone else really sad that they killed off Havok? They underutilized him so hard in DOFP, that I was really excited that he was returning. There was so much more to mine from the relationship between him and Scott. Oh well :/

Singer said he has an idea for a sequel that would take place in the 90s so it seems like that's likely.

Edit: Which would finally bring us back to just about where we started. Crazy.

I wasn't sad at all because of what you mentioned - completely underutilized, and because of that I have no emotional tie to the character at this point... seriously I can't believe how terrible I thought this movie was.

I enjoyed it. Quicksilver's part at the mansion eased a lot of tension that was building up.

The tension was non-existent, for me - whatever they were going for just didn't work for me... neither did the quicksilver scene, unfortunately :(

sidenote: The theater just got new seats that recline slightly, so this obnoxious couple caught in the honeymoon phase in front of me was banging my shins with the backs of the chairs as they would do this annoying cuddling bs. The dude also had the worst laugh at the most wrong times. Then like literally right at the credits, he busts his phone out to go to score the movie on rottentomatoes or something with an excessive 5 stars, but his phone was set to the brightest setting and just was even more obnoxious. So I just turned the flashlight on mine and shined it above him, thinking he got the message, he put his phone away but kept going back to see if anyone responded to his rating. wtf, everyone knows Marvel movies show a post-credits scene and this d-bag just threw ruined the induction into it.

  13. I thought this was a ton of fun. Of all the superhero franchises, I've always thought X-Men was the most creative with their visual ideas, even though a lot of the CGI in this was too noticeable. Quicksilver scene put a big fat smile on my face. Enjoyed pretty much all of the new cast. Disappointed that the horseman, except for Magneto, have 0 character. Also always enjoyed the philosophical debate between Xavier and Eric, as well as the socio-political themes, which seemed to be lacking in favor of Apocalypse, but oh well. Doesn't measure up to DoFP, but this was pretty great.

I thought it was decent and it felt kind of like what Age of Ultron was to me. A solid but lower point in the franchise (but not a low point by any means). There was a lot of story to get through and a lot of things going on, and the villains weren't given their due at all. The new young x-men were fantastic though (especially after i got over english accent sansa stark) and i'm excited about the franchise going forward with the new characters.

Storm had a little character. Enough that you understood why she would turn on Apocalypse, but that's about it. Still very under utilized. Angel was wasted completely. Psylocke was pointless. Can't believe Munn passed on Deadpool for this part.

Who would she have been in Deadpool? I can see passing on being a love interest in favor of being an actual superhero. X-Men probably paid better, too, though that's just a guess

Morena Baccarin's character. Her name escapes me at the moment.

She was the "love interest", but she had waaaaaaay more character than Psylocke did. And way more lines. She didn't just stand around looking mopey.

Money? I mean, I have no idea. But to me, which means nothing haha, I see The deadpool part getting more money due to having such a small guest. There are a ton of people in Apocalypse, though I'm sure they had a much higher budget along with that. I dunno.

Just based on the final product, she chose poorly.

  18. Ya you're right about Storm. I've seen Olivia Munn act her ass off in The Newsroom, so I was disappointed with her wooden performance here, though there wasn't much to the character for her to play off of either.

Sure but it's very very hard to judge that early in the process which will be better. I'm sure she was in talks before she saw a script and that the X-Men teams gave her a great pitch and, given the difference in budget, extra money probably helped. I don't doubt Deadpool was better but that's not the only thing that went into the decision/it can be hard at the script level to judge which project will end up better in the end.

I'm more bummed we missed out on whatever Oscar Isaac could have done if he wasn't shackled by this movie.

I can see how some people were not satisfied with this movie but right now I can't decide if Apocalypse or DOFP is my favorite of the series. This film just felt more like an "X-Men" film to me than any of the others. I did miss the philosophical themes between Erik and Charles but the scenes with Erik were some of my favorites and I'm very pleased with how Quicksilver, Jean Grey, and Cyclops were handled as well.

The film was a bit long and I enjoyed the first half (up until Stryker arrived) more than the second half. With the long introductions out of the way, the next film should be great.

Like I said, "just based on the final product".

Yea, um, I don't know why Isaac did this. Haha

I have friends talking about seeing a movie this weekend, and they're all more interested in this than my preferred choices. Do I have to see Days of Future Past to enjoy this one?
