conversation on The Big Picture brought up the seemingly more and more apparent class stuff in Emerald's movies IE "this poor person is trying to kill me" and maybe that's why I don't vibe with her
She seems to have contempt for the rich in her movies too. Just bleak and sour movies about everyone that kind of stinks.
PYW was whatever, but I enjoyed Saltburn and this on an entertainment and escape the world kind of level. Are they really good or a masterpiece? Hell no. Do they have their issues? Hell yes. But I was interested and invested and NOT bored — which is the most offensive thing a film can be. Take that with a grain of salt with this one since I don’t know the source material and have no connection to it. And don’t get me wrong, I love good writing and plot and all of that, but film is a VISUAL (and I’ll include audio) medium more than anything. Cast and cinematography are doing a lot of heavy lifting in both. I also feel like some are eager to shit on Fennel even though rightfully so at times. Low bar, but she hasn’t put anything out as bad as The Whale yet.
Some good looking shots but god this was boring as fuck. I never read the book but I’m assuming the characters aren’t as poorly written/annoying in that.
