I was actually able to see another movie called Mimics instead. Probably will catch this tomorrow or Saturday though.
Never read the book so I have no opinion on how the source material translated to this film, but the film as a whole I enjoyed.
Wound up sticking around after Mimics and watched this too. It was better than I expected. Definitely didn't love it but it was miles better than her previous films imo. Good performances from everyone. I'd say it's worth the watch.
admittedly when I read the book I had trouble following it so I don't have the same fealty to the text that others do Hong Chau is always great and Margot Robbie playing a brat, pun intended, and Jacob Elordi playing a freak were fun, although I agree that they were both a little old for the part the Charli soundtrack works with Emerald's vibe and this feeling like both fanfic and a commentary on why fanfic and people in general want a doomed romance, not lost on me that Isabella is obsessed with Romeo and Juliet, worked for me but I get why it doesn't work for anyone
Just came back from it I didn't hate it, but definitely my least favorite of Emerald's movies. Honestly hearing Charli's songs in it was my favorite part lol, but that's more me being excited hearing her music in a movie than hating the other parts.
This had me for the first hour and then once Heathcliff returns it becomes incredibly repetitive and overstays its welcome by a good half hour.
definitely not this films intended audience but i did feel the length as well. was checking my watch more than a few times in the last hour.
Probably her most successfully made film but the plotting and characters felt dull and lifeless which is partially on the source material but she also chose to adapt it so
I didn’t read the book lol. I said my biggest issues with the movie were the plot and the characters, not the actual filmmaking itself. I’d imagine the characters and the plot are carried over from the book so I don’t fully fault her for that since she can’t change that, though, as I said, she can just choose to adapt something else lol. That seems like a pretty easy thing to understand.
yea same here. Loved the first half. Amazing visuals. Didn’t realize it was so tragic. Oddly familiar with the promising young woman ending in a way.
This was basically exactly what I thought it was going to be. No better, no worse. Feels like simultaneously the best and most boring Fennell movie.
