    Relevant to the topic if you feel like reading my book for free a month before release! Embeds are dumb here but link works

    @OotyPa

    Finally started your novella last night. Seriously a wonderful look at what it feels like to be that age again. All the self-doubt and the existential dread. Nailed it. I’ll finish tonight!

    You weren’t kidding. It managed to feel like a half-remembered fever dream for 80 or so pages. Good shit

    Thank you so damn much for reading and supporting. I hope you were able to find some meaning in it. Please rate / review on GoodReads if you have an account and you have some time! Every bit helps.

    Feels like a good place to ask this question, hopefully someone has an idea!

    In 2022 my wife and I self-published a physical book here in the UK through her business Of The Wild (she’s a florist). The aim of the book was always physical as it’s got lots of gorgeous photos alongside my writings. However, shipping overseas has always been huge and a lot of people keep asking me for an ebook version so they can access it.

    Has anyone self-created an ebook? What platform is most simple? Are photos / images easy to include or do we need to do something different? I’ve had a bit of look over the last few years but feels like a good time to put some effort in. I would value any input as our two year old daughter takes up most of my headspace, haha!

    Amazon’s KDP has a tool for creating an ebook. Some popular software is Atticus and Vellum, though I’ve used neither of those. Scrivener will also do this but isn’t as good with images sometimes (this is the program I’ve used for my fiction novels, for example).

    There are other ways, but these seem to be some more common ones, and doing an ebook has never been easier, so it should be a pretty simple task to translate what you have already into the right format.

    Dropping in here to say I fucking hate self-promotion and I feel like an absolute tool any time I have to do it

    Preaching to the choir. My one suggestion would be to make it so there are things that “do the promotion for you.” For example, attend readings—post photos and videos of your performance; sign up for blog tours—then share the reviews on social media; ask friends to post pics of your book—then reshare their posts; seek out interview opportunities, author spotlights, attend local events for indie authors, network with other writers, etc.

    Just wrote up some press releases and shopped em to all the local papers!

    one editor reached out and said he loved the synopsis and it went from there lol

    it is, the worst. My book is adjacent to an absurdly popular genre at the moment, and I see all the fads and trends all day every day and think about how I could never find the time or energy to take part lol

    Funny you all are talking about this as I’m proofreading/editing my friend’s novel currently and it’s fantasy and it did just get to a horny shit bit. Weird reading that but actually proofreading at the same time, haha.
