It's called Camp NaNoWriMo. Good luck! I'm hoping we all make it through this lol. It's absolutely a tough challenge and I'm already not sure how I'll make it since I'm moving and starting a new job next month. We'll figure it out!
I have never done any creative writing. I want to get into it more so this year my writing specific goals are - Write 12 short stories - Journal 150 days - Write 10 poems - Take an online writing class I've had a few ideas for random stories before but have never acted on them. Any tips? Are these goals too hard for a beginner?
Not too hard at all. I think you'll have the hardest issue with the journaling. I rec maybe reading a few short stories just to get a feel for what a normal arc feels like.
Yeah, it all comes pretty quick and easy until you decide to do it for a career. Then suddenly you forget and over analyze everything.
I used to be so much more prolific and care free when I was writing in high school for fun. I just did it without thinking about it. Now, I have so much more trouble believing in myself and often give up before I've barely started and it really pisses me off
Oh yeah, I'm right there with you, believe me. It's a lot harder and there's so much more to think on.
I would maybe see what Tor has on their website for sci-fi and fantasy shorts. Some American lit classics: The Lottery and An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. Flannery O'Conner has a bunch, too.
The Boomin' System I need to write more so I started a Tumblr where I write down my thoughts about 100 90s hip hop albums
Had a pretty substantial break on long gestating novel. Hope to have draft done this spring. It feels great.
I wrote this this morning, after reading Roger Cohen's op-ed in the NYT. America, you used to admire Monuments, adorned with phrases like - "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore." Now you just admire Walls Casinos, Towers, and beauty pageants.
I'm not often political (especially in my work), but the shit that DT did with (once again) deregulating the banks helped inspire this poem. Source
Poetry always was my go to for collecting thoughts and expression.. sooo with it being it's six years with my girl today I wrote her a poem. Poem for the 6 year with my girl figured it better than slamming the thread with all those lines lol.
Honestly, I would just start with maybe having the goal of 500 words a day in order to slowly build yourself to 1000 a day. Keep your journal with you wherever you go, and once you have a focused idea (for a short story of poem) really allow yourself to be in a creative mindset.
Writing a live comedy show, a TV pilot, and also filming another TV pilot. Technically a screenwriter as well! What are you working on?
I have two optioned shorts (writing credits only), and I just finished working on a Friday the 13th fan flick that will begin it's kickstarter campaign in the next couple of weeks with a goal of $15,000. We're trying to get one of the original Jason's and a another actor to reprise his very famous franchise role.
I just finished my newest book and I'm getting ready to release it next month. It's a collection of poetry and artwork and will be up on Amazon next month. Some more info HERE if anyone is interested
