Yah what if Shane was supposed to interfere the main event but was too dead to do that so they went with plan B lol.

Pretty bad PPV overall... That was a weak showing for the main event unless Goldberg sticks around.

i'm writing a book, leave me alone.

Trying to think of logical reasons and what it means for the Goldberg win. And in that fashion and that quickly...

Was this an FU to the UFC?
Was this retaliation for something Brock has done?
How long was this the plan?

God, I can't wait until Paul Heyman writes a book about all his wrestling stories. That will be pure gold.

Also, how fucking wild that Vince uses Goldberg - a WCW man he had no fingerprint of creation on and the man that almost sunk his company in the 90's - to take down one of his most prized creations.

the whole ppv was whatever. certain guys looked strong, weird booking all around, no stakes so in the end...who cares, and then you had the main event.

it's boring but i see both sides of the coin when it comes to the main event. I think the Lesnar 'beast incarnate' thing has run its course and has gotten pretty stale, and while it would've been nice to save this for someone on the CURRENT ROSTER and NOT a 50 year old, I don't think it's a disaster. They can sell it as Lesnar didnt take goldberg seriously, and that he took his eye of the ball for once, and it cost him. Trying to sell the whole 'anything can happen' mentality of wrestling. It's fine.

the ppv felt pretty damn full though. it felt strong, but you could not watch, and yet not a miss a damn thing.

God I'm so glad I only read results and catch spare highlights of WWE at this point. How is that ending defensible in the slightest?

I mean, if it makes Lesnar vulnerable and has him start to actually wrestle again, I'm content. Weird decision for sure though.

It really is frustrating. Not only did they not give someone with longevity the rub from beating Lesnar - no one got any rub from Lesnar at all in the last three years. No one got a "wow, he really took Lesnar to his limit" moment, outside of Undertaker. Lesnar stood as the post-game DLC final raid boss, and they brought in a guy who they no doubt had to buy huge money to beat him, get physical at MAYBE two more shows, and then retire. Goldberg is one of the biggest backstage divas in modern history, and he will be the one going down with the best record and resume. Ridiculous. It may as well have been Cena to beat Brock, it at least could be fudged to look like a "full circle" story and that heat would go to someone willing to put guys over.

I mean, I guess I'm glad people are enjoying it. It was a legitimate "holy shit" moment, but I'm surprised it's holding up for so many after the initial shock. If the person that takes down Goldberg isn't someone with at least 5 more fulltime years on their bump card... I don't even fucking know.

That's not the point. Humanizing Lesnar is fine. Having thousand year old Goldberg squash him is absolutely stupid.

Brock's been murdering people for 5 years. He murdered Randy Orton like 3 months ago. And now old brokedick Goldberg, who NEVER has been a good wrestler, is the guy to stop the madness in 90 seconds? Please.

I wouldn't even have cared if Goldberg won an actual wrestling match. But to build Brock up as an unstoppable monster, to have him end the streak and kill all those dudes only to be squashed by BILL GOLDBERG is the dumbest thing I've seen in my 20+ years of watching wrestling.

A young guy should have been the one to stop Brock. It feels like they wanted it to be Reigns but knew the crowd would hate it so they called an audible - that's stupid, there are plenty of guys who would have benefited from that rub.

The only way I can justify that decision in my head at all is that they got stoked Goldberg was willing to show up, then realized he either couldn't or wouldn't be able to have a good match. It's garbage.

It definitely would have made a lot more sense to even give Orton the rub of beating Lesnar

Also, there's no way this was "punishment" for UFC because why bother having Lesnar win at Summerslam in that case?

The only way that I can see this going is Heyman saying he underestimated Goldberg, and they have a rematch where Brock dominates. Apparently Goldberg is going to be at the Rumble, so we'll see. It's a weird decision for sure, and I definitely think they've called an audible after Reigns hasn't gotten the reception they've wanted.

Da Meltz says a deal with Goldberg was reached in the last week for him to stay with presumed matches at RR and WM. Says Brock among others pushed for the deal cause he/they saw money in Goldberg. Once deal was in place, whole point of match became to put him over.

Makes sense. Lesnar will probably have his rematch at Mania with him and beat him there.

    man, I'm pretty Prestigious

Goldberg's entire gimmick over the past 20 years is that he's unbeatable. More so than anyone in the history of WWE. And he already had a clean win over Lesnar at a major ppv. It's not hard to sell that he and Brock are on a different level from the rest of the roster.

It might not have been pure genius, but it certainly was refreshing. I think everyone had gotten tired of Lesnar being booked the way he was around Wrestlemania, yet it still dragged on for another 9 months. And like I said I don't think they had anyone ready to take that push. When Brock gets his win back, it won't even be that big of a deal.

I agree with this, and it follows in logic that Brock didnt take him seriously. He turns away after getting thrown back, not taking the threat of a spear seriously.

But I also agree with this. Put them both in the RR match and have them eliminate each other. Sets up a WM match.

Then you want to build someone as a monster heel? Have them interfere and murder both of them. Braun or Joe or whoever. End Goldbergs career, leave Brock being stretchered out after a dozen chair shots style beat down.

Just having Brock win would be dumb and a waste.

It could be that they want to eliminate the whole unbeatable/complete dominance thing with Lesnar because there is no where to go with it... And having an outlier like Goldberg do it was the solution. But it is disappointing that it wasn't even a match at all.

  25. Joe4th

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

They're definitely going to have a rematch, the way Meltzer explained it makes sense. There's a lot more money to be made with Brock/Goldberg, so having another match on a bigger stage and more fleshed out is where the real money is. Having that squash builds up Goldberg as a credible threat to now be able to have their big match most likely at Mania. It's all about the money.
