I was never that big on that Cesaro match (I definitely had it ranked behind at least Punk/Cena on Raw and Rhodes/Shield at Battleground that year) and even I think you're underselling it.

That match was almost 3 years ago. NXT was nothing like what it is today -- that is probably their best episode ever and what kicked off it's huge growth as a brand.

  3. Holy shit. That was incredible. I don't watch much NJPW. Is that type of match normal or is that one of the cream of the crop? Some of those spots were unreal.

Just watched the Ricochet/Ospreay match. Not that I personally hated it, but I think its completely reasonable for someone to really dislike the match. There's just so much going on with the counters, and a complete no sell of energy that its a bit hard to realize what moves meant anything at all. Its sequence after sequence with little to no cool down time at all. The finish was great, but with all of the other things happening it seemed really out of the blue.

It was the match in their Best of the Super Juniors tournament which is NJPW's equivalent to the upcoming WWE World Cruiserweight Classic, and those two are generally considered to be the two of the best high flyers on the planet right now so they really pulled out all the stops.

Not all NJPW matches are as good as this, but they generally consistently put out a better in ring product than any other wrestling company.

Yeah Vader was criticizing it on Twitter saying it seemed like "a choreographed gymnastic dance routine more than a match". I understand why someone would say that but there are different flavors of wrestling and some of them aren't meant for everyone, and there are some that think that no selly spot fest matches can be super fun.

My one critique is that they were calling their spots way too loudly, it's probably easy for them to forget that alot of english speakers are watching so I forgive that.

Exactly, they can do what they want as long as they understand that there will be people that love it and people that hate it. I have no problems that they did this match, just wasn't my cup of tea. I did love Ospreay cussing his lungs out though. The yelling for pain adds a whole lot to his matches.

Why is the new thing for ring gear to give everyone turncoats from Hot Topic? Gallows and Anderson, Zack Ryder post-WM, etc.

I will say that I watched all those GIFs and was one of the people that thought "great gifs, not a match I want to watch" because it was just spot after spot after spot after spot of tumbling, flippy stuff. I respect that they wanted to go to the extreme on that style of match, and that's cool, but it's 100% not for me. I'd enjoy that match if they reeled it back in about 50%.

To be fair, those two matches you mentioned were fantastic as well, so having them above Cesaro/Zayn is reasonable. Man I love that Punk/Cena match on raw.

That's cool if anyone felt that type of match isn't their cup of tea, it's just the assholes who say matches like that "are killing the business" that can gtfo.

Ricochet and Ospreay was good but could see why people wouldn't like it. My complaints lay in how loud you could hear them call their spots lol.

i'm gonna watch the match when i get the chance, but one complaint i've had about wrestling nowadays is how choreographed it comes across. like it's technically better wrestling than you'd see in the past, but for what it ends up showcasing in ability, it loses in drama and realness. at the end of the day these are two guys who are supposed to be fighting, it's hard to buy into that when you're constantly reminded how obvious it is theyre working in concert with each other.

2013 was a weird year. Most of the ppvs sucked and almost all of the top 10 matches were given away on free TV, including that Punk/Cena match which was match of the year.

That was my complaint as well. The spot with the pants grab was egregious but overall the match was good.

For sure. I find that most people who say "____ is killing the business" is someone whom was pushed to the periphery of the business.
Well put, and I 100% agree.
Yeah, what a weird time. I still remember marking the hell out when Punk hit a piledriver on Cena. A staple of my childhood wrestling watching came back in one spot and I lost my mind.

I was just thinking how fucking absurd BOLA could be this year. We could realistically see a field of something like:

    1. Zack Sabre Jr.
    2. Roderick Strong
    3. Adam Cole
    4. Kyle O'Reilly
    5. Chris Hero
    6. Ricochet
    7. Kenny Omega
    8. Johnny Gargano
    9. Tomasso Ciampa
    10. Candice LeRae
    11. Trevor Lee
    12. Sami Callihan
    13. Timothy Thatcher
    14. Tommy End
    15. Drew Gulak
    16. Matt Sydal
    17. Chuck Taylor
    18. Trent?
    19. Brian Cage
    20. Jack Evans
    21. Angelico
    22. Pentagon Jr.
    23. Marty Scurll
    24. Will Ospreay

That's not counting the possibility it would happen after Cody's non-compete expires, as I'm sure they would have him. Not to mention all the other amazing people that could easily take any one of these spots and it be just as insane. ACH, Andrew Everett, AR Fox, Cedric Alexander, TJ Perkins, LU/AAA guys, Drew Galloway, Mark Andrews, Michael Elgin, Rocky Romero, Bobby Fish, Evil Uno, Joey Ryan, etc etc.

I honestly have no clue who will be the 2016 BOLA winner. The two strongest booked wrestlers on PWG shows lately besides ZSJ, have been Chuck Taylor and Trent? and those are two you'd normally would think would be BOLA winners. It's be so cool though if they made 2016 Chuck Taylor's year, he really deserves it.

Adam Cole winning it a 2nd time by going full Bullet Club like he is in ROH, Roddy winning to facilitate a change in character, or Brian Cage winning as a solid dark horse could also be possibilities.

My favorite to be this year's BOLA winner was Mike Bailey but then that bullshit VIsa thing happened.
