Meltzer can only be as right as long as the plans stay the same. Reigns/Taker, Lesnar/Goldberg, and Rollins/HHH were all visibly the plan to the average viewer on TV from the Rumble on. Of course the one show a year they're expected to draw 7 times their second biggest gate is going to be more locked down.

    Shane/AJ wasn't lol.

    In the last month:
    - Corbin lost his MITB in 8 seconds
    - Arn Anderson was the short term payoff to Fashion Files
    - Jason Jordan became Angle's son leaving Gable to die a death
    - Owens and Styles hot potatoed the belt, seemingly botching a finish, because Jericho became available for Tuesday
    - Usos/New Day traded title wins
    - Tozawa held the belt for six days
    - The Hardys wrestled in front of 15,000 empty seats

Planning is not wrestlings strong suit, don't need Meltz to tell me that lol

Braun was definitely supposed to face Brock at GBOF before he got injured.

I'm not saying Meltzer doesn't know anything, I'm saying the way everyone acts like he knows everything in a world where his every other sentence is "plans can change" is embarrassing
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well we aren't saying he knows who's going to go over and when the belt is gonna switch. But he's well informed about main event plans as far as booking for PPVs.

Brock has been booked for No Mercy for two months. He was never leaving. Possibly dropping the belt and having a rematch, but he was always sticking around for another month of story.

I'm not, you are missing my point Dan. I am saying that, in a world where Vince doesn't seem to know what he's doing until crunch time, Meltzer can't do much better. He does pretty well at major stories given he covers a 70 year old man's roulette wheel for a living but yeah.

Yeah but I obviously listen to Meltzer several times a week, and maybe like 5% of what he talks about is speculation. MAYBE that much. Mostly he gives inside info on stuff that just happened and why it was booked that way. It's not like all he does is play fortune teller, but people seem to think he does. I hear ya, it's impossible to predict with the way Vince flip flops. But in my experience when Meltzer says something is definitely going to happen, it usually does. He just doesn't do that often. Usually he does say plans can change and makes it clear he isn't sure.

I just defend him because I respect the hell out of him. Not saying you are, but lots of people give him shit and I think that's disrespectful. He has been doing this for 40 years and has been the same level of passionate about it since day 1. The guy is a walking Encyclopedia for pro wrestling AND UFC, it's incredible the things he can call back to on a whim. He's always remained humble and consistent. It's very fascinating when you think about it.

I have nothing but respect for the dude, it's the "diehard" fans and the dumb culture they've built around him that drives me nuts. They read every word so they can say they "called" every thing that happens and then either:
    • The thing happens, they get their 5 seconds of "told you so", then whine about the lack of surprises
    • The thing doesn't happen, they get salty that they got worked by a show that exists to work them, and either get mad at Dave or go "lol they must've changed the plans" yada yada
There's no pleasing them. They complain about how much weekly programming there is, then drain all the surprise from it, and get bitter and blame it on the product or Dave or anything but themselves. Most days wreddit makes my face glued to my palm.

I mean you're casting a broad stroke, those people are annoying but it's not everyone. There are people like me who just enjoy to commentary Meltz and the others on his website do. I could care less about being right about predictions after reading newsletters, hell I don't even do the PPV predictions on here cause I don't care about that haha.

Meltzer does have brutal fans though, they had a convention this past weekend so they did a podcast that was half just recent news then the second half was Q&A live with fans sitting with Dave and they were all such annoying pricks to him. Haha. So you're right about alot of his fans. It's unfortunate.

this reddit post sums it all up

The cruiserweights go out and bust their asses. They get a "This Match Sucks" chant.

The Hardys and 2/3rds of The Shield have an impromptu tag match. The crowd plays with beach balls.

The crowd gets a match with matwork to open and one of the top stars on the brand. Beach balls.

They get a main event tag team match with 4 stars including the first in-ring faceoff of John Cena and Samoa Joe. The crowd still cares more about the damn beach balls.

And these shows, if reports are to be believed, haven't sold as many tickets as the previous years at Barclays.

Fuck these dumb little hipster smarks. They're spoiled. They shit on every different kind of match besides a garbage brawl. What the fuck did they go to a WWE show for if every different style of wrestling in WWE isn't what they wanted?

Just stay the fuck home if you care that little about wrestling. It's like they showed up for entrances and promos. If you wanted big lights, talking, and music, you have the largest theatre district in the world just across the Brooklyn Bridge.

But they won't fucking go there because they know they will be promptly ejected if they try to make the show about themselves on Broadway.

Fuck them. The show isn't about them. Quit fucking coddling them with big shows. They aren't even satisfied with that. They should take a hint from WWE's old New York City-based programming, open up wide, and eat a Shotgun Saturday Night.

    Fucking assholes.

They made the same mistake as they made sunday night.

Crowd loved the Brock/Braun segment. So what did they follow it with? A Cass/Enzo street fight where Enzo gets rag-dolled and was gonna get squashed for what, the 6th time? Then an Emma/Nia match again. Elias appears as a savior for an hour of TV that was trending way down...

Hard to care about 8-man tags and squashes. Especially when they dont appear to be advancing any storyline.

Last night the "Where's your briefcase" chant against Corbin transformed into "Where's your hairline" which was wonderfully brutal
