43 is old in wrestling imo. Either way isn’t he making a nice bag?

John // OC now, OH forever.

AEW signed 50 year old Edge and has had him at the top of card for the last two years after what everyone thought was career ending neck surgery and let him jump off a cage and explode his leg.

Finn's 43, looks 33, and gets to end his career doing Bullet Club stuff with the Bucks, Kenny, and Okada? Yes please.

Punk was 43 when he signed with AEW. I think Finn would be fine.

I think Finn could definitely still go at a very high level if he wanted to, but he seems perfectly content where he is. Sort of feels like a WWE lifer at this point.

Finn signed a 5 year deal last year, so he's almost definitely retiring in the WWE unless something wild happens and he gets released. They'd probably just let him coach in Orlando with Shawn once he's done anyway.

No offense to Fin or AJ but I’d prefer if AEW focused on its current young talent. They don’t need either of those guys.

Outside of the Rollins injury, Finn's also been fairly injury-free, right? Feel like he still has gas in the tank.

It's sounding like the original creative was for Cena to turn heel at Wrestlemania, and The Rock forced their hand. If that's the case, it would explain why the build was a senseless mess.

Also completely explains the weird oversight of "well, how did Cena know he was going to win the Chamber and have a chance to turn on Cody?" Cause he...wasn't supposed to turn on Cody (yet.)

    Rock is a real problem.

43 is not that old in wrestling anymore. Jey is 39. So is Cody. a late-30s into 40s career is not that unusual now that they aren't just slamming 'roids without concern. Obviously still taking PEDs but they're smarter now.

And for everyone asking how you do a face v face match...

It's easy with Cena and Cody. The most recent bigger than life babyface against the new bigger than life babyface. Cena goes a bit more tweener for the build but it's 1v1 and arguably much easier with his schedule because he's so big and popular he gets to make movies!

it would be cool to see prince devitt in new japan again but no interest at all in him going to AEW speaking hypothetically

he gets to work safely in wwe for the next 5-10 years and likely gets to regress into a trainer role like all the old indy trainers of years past

Yep. Everything about that plan is exponentially better.

You don't really need to do a ton of build if they're both faces. The match kind of sells itself. We're not looking for an explanation about aligning with The Rock or dedicating what little TV time Cena has in the lead up to shitting on the fans. You don't really care if one gets strongly cheered over the other because they're both faces. If the match sucks (and it did), who cares? You've got one of the biggest turns in wrestling history at the end and that's all anyone is going to care about anyway. Oh, and, no Travis Scott.

You still land in the same place, a lot more organically.

Respectful to the business Cody graciously accepting a title match at Mania with a retiring Cena who'd barely survived a Chamber match is a lot more plausible than 20 years of "I love the fans" Cena turning his back on them. You'd write it so much easier - Cena knows his time is running out, doubts himself after what he thinks is a lucky win in the Chamber and not much success leading up to it, and he can sell out to Rock and the board by cheating to win the title.

Cena turning at Mania instead of weeks before gives us all of the last month of his promos now except with the reasoning that a retiring Cena going on a victory tour of #17 all summer is better for business than Cody. That’s more believable than the guy who lived and died for the Cenation telling them he doesn’t need them.

It’s almost better if it’s a mid match than with Cena retiring. He’s old, he’s done, but he’s trying to prove he’s the bigger face. Hard to take a heel seriously when it’s middling.
