That’s how I see it too. Lotta people didn’t make it onto that card. Thats the nature of the business.

  3. I really don’t get why they’d do a show around the writing and production of everything they do. In a vacuum it’ll be interesting but I don’t see how it doesn’t hurt wrestling as a whole.

But I guess they’ve already admitted they aren’t a wrestling company anymore. They are entertainment. So, sure. In that perspective, it makes sense.

This is so weird to me with a lot of those being recent ish WWE releases now being in a partnership with WWE and to top it off WWE talent on the card

  5. I’m curious what Cena has planned though. I don’t think it’ll be a retirement with the belt situation. They are advertising him for shows all summer.

  6. To piggyback on this, I guess it does make sense with how they’ve been doing things. It goes back to the long form storytelling stuff. The fans love it. They’ve found ways for the fans to accept that this is all highly produced and orchestrated and still love it. So a show like Unreal just adds to that. It’s not for me but it will be very popular I bet.

    Die rad.

I dont see him actually retiring with the belt tonight, but I can see him trying to attempt to but something stalls that. idk, just throwing stuff out there.

I mean, the AEW behind the scenes show was fine, and most of that was about exposing the business too. Theres too many dirt sheets and fan accounts doing the same to even pretend kayfabe exists outside the TV window.

There's basically three things it has to have to work. One, gotta not have people still working in character, cause then its just silly. Two, its gotta be decently retroactive (I think AEW's stuff was all 6+ months in the past, so, its not risking spoiling stuff). And three, there's gotta be actual intrigue. Sadly, AEW's had little of that, behind it basically revealing that everyone hated Britt in retrospect.

That said, this writers room has gotta be boring as hell compared to 5 years ago. Id watch the shit out of an Office/Veep-style show where Vince came in and ripped up the script 10mins to air and they're all scrambling.

His retirement tour is supposed to be for all of 2025 right? I think the spinner belt has to be a part of this

  11. Do we think there will ever be a Travis Scott match? Like him v Bad Bunny or something?

Considering he couldn't pull off a singled worked punch without injuring a dude, Im gonna guess no. Didnt see any evidence of real athleticism even though he did fine selling the Cross Rhodes.

I really hope we don't get more Travis Scott in the WWE, but I'd say it's likely. Triple H kept saying how dedicated Scott is to the WWE and how this is his second passion next to music...

    Dude sucks.

John // OC now, OH forever.

I'd be into him trying to retire with the belt and Rock comes out with a "whoa whoa whoa, that wasn't part of the deal" promo. Let Rock be the voice of the office who has sunk money into Cena's retirement tour and telling him he can't just abandon the dates he's been advertised for. Cena begrudgingly makes his appearances, resenting the whole business side of it that won't let him go. We get halfhearted Cena who visibly doesn't want to be there and thinks he's above it all. The whole while, the fans are still behind him as he slowly realizes that he really does need them as much as anyone and we get an actual Cena/Cody match at Summerslam.

We've still got the rest of the year left of Cena though and I'm not sure how they wrap up his story unless he's just sporadically on TV and mostly doing promos.

Caught a clip of Cena further expanding on taking the WWE title with him when he leaves. Incredibly dumb, non-sensical garbage.

His explanation for “ruining wrestling” is that he’s taking the title home with him, and its lineage, too. He acknowledges that WWE will just turn around and create a new belt, but they’ll be starting from scratch.

As if, canonically, they can’t just (1) strip him of it when he retires, or (2) apply the lineage to whatever new title they create, as they’ve already done a number of times.

And if the goal is to take the title with you into retirement, and you’re holding the title right now, then wouldn’t the heel move be to…retire now, rather than spend the rest of the year defending it?

They’re going to have to jump through so many hoops to make any of this make sense. This heel turn is really turning out to be a colossal fumble.

Also, that’s Paul Heyman. He can call it working, but his mask has slipped off enough times to know. He’s that guy, through and through.

The Travis Scott thing just feels like the tipping point in it's use of celebrities where WWE feels like it's running a wrestling fantasy camp for famous people that we are all forced to watch.
