Turns out that was mild in comparison to his promo on Dynamite

 

Honest question cuz i rly cant tell: how is AEW doing from a business standpoint these days? Viewership, financially, broader cultural recognition etc?

 

I personally don’t bother worrying/thinking about it

 

its the second most popular wrestling promotion in america, just did an 18k house in London, i think they have like 10k sold for All Out in Toronto coming up. tv ratings they generally finish top 5 for the night on cable for their flagship program Dynamite on Weds and Collision fluctuates anywhere from 1st - 20th on the night in cable in America for Sat nights. dynamite did its worst TV rating of all time last week, but thats for cable and not streaming. I think the overall cultural perception is that they are a minor league federation focused on blood and guts and have been effectively written off by the overall WWE audience, but then you have people like the thread posters who are fans of the sport itself who enjoy AEW more than WWE or other alternatives due to the focus on in ring product and celebration of the history of the sport rather than constantly trying to rewrite history. AEW has a strong and loyal audience and each PPV show ends up with a good to great attendance and consistent ppv buys above 100k. they are according to 'analysts' the second most profitable pro wrestling company in american history. WWE is constantly trying to counter program the promotion so you can make the assumption that they are not 'true competition', but the big dog on the yard seems to think they're competition.

 

Thanks! Dont get me wrong i luv aew. But my wrestling talks are limited to this thread and sitting here in Europe it's harder to see what actual cultural perception is. Last week there was a guy in a goldberg shirt here in my gym, dont see that yet with aew. Hopefully rly a "yet".

WrestleMania 43 in line to be the worst mania of all time - obviously you have the blood money stuff but sounds like they will give out huge paydays to get Taker and Stone Cold and all the old legends on the card lol

 

no problem mate, as much as i don't really care myself to invest in the business aspect of wrestling, its hard to avoid when you're keeping up with news and stuff. i think overall a lot of the negative perception about AEW is a direct response of the industry that has been cultivated to make $ talking shit and earning clicks about them and their wrestlers so its easy to get shit lost in translation especially for someone not in the states

 

Gonna be all-time hilarious when CM Punk finally gets his WM Main Event there

 

I don’t follow AEW closely anymore but it seems like their PPVs sell amazing but I’m curious on their tv tapings if they picked up or not. I see they are coming to San Antonio next month and usually when they come here they were already booking our smaller arena but this time they are booking an even smaller one.

 

So, they've been running residencies at places (first Chicago, now Philly at the ECW arena) in like 1000-1500 person venues to save money. And then they've been doing like 3-4k a show when they run TV normally. PPVs have been selling really well ticket wise, but TV, as usual, you should wait til closer to show time for the discounted price (unless its like a <2000 person venue)

Sucks Wardlow got injured and all but I was absolutely not interested in him vs Hangman.

Wardlow vs Hangman is like a Collision main event nonderogatory, id watch it. if that main events a ppv tho you either have the hard cam emptying out during your main event OR everyone stays for the Buckshot because Hangman is the most charismatic man alive
