I think Mike meant “ads” like all the commercials and all the breaks on Peacock and/or elsewhere unless you have premium subscriptions or whatever. That’s been forever.

but yeah the shit in the ring, chairs, tables and Michael Cole selling his soul for a ice cream cone and Mountain Dew ruining Wyatt are all newer forms of ad hell adding to the existing ad hell

Not sure if were there yet and I’m sure this has happened a few times because of older tv shows but I’m waiting for the day that a tv show has season 1-3 on Booger, 4-7 on Snot, 8-9 on Fart and seasons 10-12 on Spit. That’s truly gonna suck and truly when so many streaming apps need to be put down

Ill read more later but it all depends on what else is bundled with the espn streamer. Do I get disney/Hulu too? And are there gonna be substantial other sports on there? Im sure its not just $30 for just wwe and like mountain west college football and Italy soccer league?

It hardly even matters how many people are watching anymore because in most instances, the money is already committed and the barometer of expectation gets lower with each renewal window because every streaming service is just looking for some commodity to latch itself onto, even if there are fewer and fewer people actually watching said commodity.

They're going to erode their base due to streamer fatigue + cost + readily available alternatives. I mean, most people already pay for Netflix and many are savvy enough to set up a cheap VPN. And then, there's just straight up piracy, which becomes more attractive by the day.

I have to imagine a good chunk of that $30 price tag is literally just paying for ESPN's terrestrial feed to be part of the thing. That thing is a huge burden to cable packages. It's not included in ESPN+ right now for that reason.

This is bad for cable, because one of their last remaining reasons to even exist was because its still the only way to get ESPN proper. I assume it's also the reason that the $30 service is being included at no extra cost to existing cable packages.

EDIT: I forgot, ESPN did just buy NFL Network and Redzone, too, so, look for that to be part of this.

I've been cool with buying AEW PPVs, but I use a VPN to get them for half price. No chance in hell I'm paying $50, but I'm good with $25.

Sure, but I think the ring ads are the least intrusive to me. I don’t personally care what the ring apron or mat or turnbuckles say. Mostly was getting at what is below:
They’ve been shouting at us about every trendy partnership since I got back into it in like 2011ish. Tout was a huge push for like 8-12 months; the wwe network price point became a meme for being talked about so much.

also take my POV with a grain of salt, I’m far from a regular wwe viewer these days, but when I checked in for the lead up to mania, idk, it seemed like it’s been, but more visual ads in conjunction now.

It's as bad as the NFL. Enshittification except this time there isn't any "integrity of the sport" argument.

Only way I’m paying $30 for a sports streamer is if it has all nfl/nba/mlb and we know that ain’t happening

Seriously. And I'm willing to pay extra for certain things because I am a dedicated fan. But ESPN is not worth paying for when it's smattering of games in the leagues it has deals with.

John // OC now, OH forever.

WWE going the same route as the MCU where there are a half dozen different ways to watch everything is exactly why I stopped following the MCU stuff years ago as well. Making it increasingly difficult and expensive to consume your content is why the business stops growing new fans. That old adage that nobody hates wrestling fans more than the WWE is spot on.

At the very least, MCU movies have one guaranteed place to stream on Disney+, while it still licenses some out to other streamers/cable networks. The closest thing you can get for WWE are YouTube accounts that post show compilations.
