Damn I just realized how few 80's WWF guys are still alive. Steamboat, DiBiase, Jake, Honky Tonk, Tito Santana, Atlas, The Steiners, The Mountie. That is all I can even think of.

 

I know a lot of people talk about Hogan being on wrestling's Mount Rushmore, and I won't deny that, but I think his greatest legacy is being on wrestling's Mount Rushmore of biggest pieces of shit, and that's an even more impressive feat, given that its an industry notorious for harboring pieces of shit.

 

I don't think most die hard wrestling fans would put him on their mount rushmore, and I think very few pro wrestlers would put him on their mount rushmore. The only people who would are guys who have barely watched wrestling in 30 years and their entire view of wrestling is just childhood nostalgia.

 

I think it depends on what kind of Mount Rushmore we're talking about. Wrestling ability? He doesn't sniff it. Overall star power and contribution to the business? Excluding him is impossible.

Yeah, I think most definitions of Mount Rushmore are "the embodiment of the thing", and its 100% impossible to exclude Hulk from that. He basically is wrestling pre-Attitude Era.

 

I do really appreciate the fact that his final appearance in front of a wrestling crowd was a full-throat, ringing rejection. That's the kind of thing that actually might bother people like him, and boy, did he deserve it.

I hope they boo the tributes he gets on wwe programming and we hear the audible adjusting of the crowd levels.

I will say one and only one positive thing about Hogan: '96-'97 Hollywood Hogan was a very entertaining and effective heel with tons of heat until he fucked it up around the end of '97 with the Sting match fiasco.

bait for what exactly? I grew up watching him and have nothing but love for him. So seeing all the hates got me shocked.

I mean obviously all the stories that have come out in the years about his shittiness to other wrestlers in the locker room and all that, but I think most people would be able to look past that for a day if not for the virulent racism

that said I did say in my post that he was a huge part of my childhood. I was a wrestling fan becuase of Hulk Hogan and everything I got to enjoy in the Attitude Era was because he got me into wrestling. But at the end of the day he was outed a huge racist scumbag so, hard for me to say anything nicer than that hah

oh wow, I honestly didn't know any of that. Haven't seen or kept up with anything he's done in the last 20 years or so. I don't mean to be so oblivious, I just felt pretty disconnected from what was going on. thanks guys
